Well step one was booking our vacation--and today we beat the price increase by getting our passports! It took a 1/2 hour at the post office for all 5 of us--and they said it had been a pretty busy week for passports!
Next, booking the hotel for the night before and the transportation--but plenty of time for that!

We made the pilgrimage last Friday. It was crowded too, and took just about an hour with the waiting. We thought it was a good idea to go on a Friday afternoon, but it seemed like others did too! The man behind the counter was not to happy, either, for that matter. Maybe it was because of the price increase? I'm happy to get it over with, though.

CONGRATULATIONS! Getting passports was the RIGHT decision, and especially since you beat the price increase!

I got my passport last weekend so I, too, could beat the price increase. It took one hour and ten minutes! I'll be so excited when I get it! A little more than 8 months till my first cruise - woo hoo!

CONGRATULATIONS! Getting passports was the RIGHT decision,

I have a question. I'm also going on the 4 day Wonder cruise this November. Are passports necessary or suggested. I was told a birth certificate and Driver's license was sufficient ? Thanks so much.

We also got passports last week before the price increase. We are going to use them for our cruise and probably going to use them again as DH parents live in Portugal!! So glad I found out about the increase on this board!!

Adult passports went from $60 to $85, kids passports went from $45 to $79. What cost me $240 last week would cost me $380 now. Sadly, I think today is the day the change went into effect!

Today (8/19) is the day prices changed but the 5 year passport for 16 and under should only have been $25 last week not $45. We went through the process to get new ones for both kids on Wed. last week. Since kids are only good for 5 years and not "renewable" it is considered a new application. We were charged $25 per plus the $15 per processing fee.

The agent mentioned they were going up by some amount and I thought it was $15 which would make passports for kids now $40, still a long way from $79! For those wondering there was another post on this a couple of weeks ago with a link to the passport office's website. Can download forms, etc.

We all went and got passports last Friday before the rate increase. I had already picked up and filled out all the applications a few days before, so we went and it took like 10 MINUTES, not the hour I hear from most of you.. MAN, I went to the district clerks office so it was WAY faster. I'm glad I did after reading how long it took all of you. Whew!:D
