Do any of the ships currently have a steel drum band?

They were not on the Fantasy Eastern sailing last week. That's all I know.

I don't remember when they stopped, I think I remember them up through 2003 - don't know if they had them after then.

That's one thing I miss. I'd take the steel drums over the lounge singers anyday. (Just my preference, nothing against the current live performers.)

I am with you...for the Caribbean sailings I miss both the Steel Drum sounds AND the general Deck Party when folks wore resort type clothes and not all this pirate'wear'. I know the pirate thing is popular but I am probably different from the majority...after so many cruises I am over it. I don't really even enjoy the Pirate Party that much any more and truly wish they would change the theme. Please don't hate on me too much...sorry!

Yes, but not a "band," but a talented solo player on the Dream in August. We saw him primarily in the adult area, so not sure if he played elsewhere except in the main lobby once or twice.

I agree with you. And I miss the old Sail-Away Party. I guess that's another thread.

I agree with you. What was it called before the pirates took over? Tropicalifragilistic or something like that.

Woo hoo! That's great. I would love to see/hear him out on the pool deck.

I think that is exactly what it used to be called when they had a really nice tropical based deck party. I know Disney wants to be different than other cruise ships out there but in my opinion they have used the pirate theme WAY TOO long. It was fun and cute for a while but guess I am over it at this point.

Folks have fun dressing up and I know the kids love it but guess there are some of us that need a regular deck party or at least a different theme.

All of that said...PLEASE bring back the steel drum music and especially up on the deck...that makes me feel like I am in the beautiful Carribean!!! The house bands are good for the lounges but not the right feel for the pool area. Even as I say this when DCL does other sailings such as Alaska and maybe even the Med they need to offer a different type of deck feel since steel drums do not fit the port offerings.

Oh well that is my two cents and probably all that it is worth...LOL!!!

The Dream has steel drums and it is really nice. Ravon Rhoden was the drummer and he was listed in the navigator if you wanted to hear him. He played in the lobby and the adult pool area. He was very nice to talk to.
