I know about carolyn Allen's but I have about 10 dresses that need to be steamed so I was trying to go a cheaper route. I saw a portable hand steamer in brookstone the other day for $50. Has anyone done this themselves?

My dress traveled very well. The store where I bought my dress steamed it before leaving home. I think that is a common practice. We touched up the dress with an iron, where needed, which wasn't much. My uncle used my travel steamer to touch up my veil. The bridesmaids and moms took care of their own dresses. Everyone looked great, and no one had any trouble.

Thanks smoof...this makes me more confident. Thanks for the heads up. I will make sure the salon steams the dress first!

Our BM's dresses actually could not be steamed b/c of the material. So Carloyn Allen had to press them with an iron. While it saved us time in not having to do it, it kinda was a waste of the $15.00. You shoud read the tags to make sure that you can steam them!

Good Luck!

I purchased a steamer (for less than $50) and my SIL steamed my dress, 3 BM dresses, and her dress (she was the best man). All came out really well. If you do use a steamer I would try it out first on something else. SIL use to work in a bridal shop so she had plenty of experience steaming dresses.

We didn't steam any of the dresses. All were steamed prior to leaving for FL by the bridal shops. Most of them traveled well (including mine). Those that didn't travel well (mostly the Jr. Bridesmaids) were ironed by my mother the morning of the wedding

My only warning would be that not all fabric can be steamed. Steaming would've ruined my wedding dress, so it was ironed instead. I wouldn't want to risk messing it up by setting the iron too hot, so I'm glad I had Carolyn Allen come and do it for me.

Thanks girls...Maybe I will have Carolyn Allens come and do my dress and use the steamer on the others. I am an interior designer and work alot with fabric so steaming the right fabric or ironing is not an issue as I have a bit of practice :goodvibes Thanks for all the help.
