Any recommendations for seasoning steamed vegetables? What do you guys put on them to add a little flavor without adding fat?

I am a BIG fan of fresh herbs. I also use dried seasoning like garlic powder [not garlic salt], dill and a mixture of Italian spices.

Sometimes I like a spritz of Balsamic vinegar.

I know you said no fat, but green beans taste good with some nutmeg, pinch of salt and a (VERY small) dab of butter.

A squeeze of a lemon or lime slice or even an orange slice (depending on wanted effect).

Maybe roast the veggies in the oven so they brown (could even lightly spray with PAM olive oil).

Hot sauce.

Herbs, especially fresh ones - basil is one of my favorites.

agnes!
PS - You do need some fats, especially if you are eating more protein than you are used to. Try toasting walnuts in the oven - they add a lot of flavor and beneficial omega-3 fatty acids to your diet.

the fresher and more local your veggies, the better they will taste even with no seasoning. I don't usually season simple steamed veggies, but on occasion I squeeze fresh lemon on, or use a lot of pepper, and of course, fresh garlic is always good.

Agnes is right about roasting making them taste better too. I LOVE green beans roasted with a little bit of garlic and red onion, that's probably my favorite. YUM.

I love cauliflower roasted with a little low fat parmesean cheese. You can do the same for brocolli

I do the same. Also a sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds (found in the Chinese food section at my grocery store) is yum-o
