I detest the taste of meats prepared on an oak grill. I feel like I'm eating wood, lol:o

What restaurants at WDW prepare their steaks this way?

I'm especially interested in the Charcrusted New York Strip Steak at Flying Fish, but would appreciate any info on other restaurants, so I can "steer" clear.:jester:

I'm not sure if it's cooked on the Oak Grill that they have... I think it's actually broiled (like the good steak houses do it)... Anyway you look at it, it's probably the best steak on property... much better than any at the Yachtsman Steakhouse... I don't remember any oaky taste on any of the Flying Fish's entree's (the ones that are cooked on the Oak Wood Grill have a fantastic flavor - not like wood at all... very nice)

Thanks, Andy for such a definite (and quick) response.

I've been wanting to try Flying Fish now for the last couple of trips. Then it occured to me... what if the steak has that awful woodsy taste? Yuk!

Can anyone tell me about the steaks at Coral Reef, Kona Cafe, or Cindy's?

TIA

Flying Fish cooks their steaks directly over the oak wood burning pit. We always sit at the show bar (the fire's right in front of us) & give the chef's a hint or two.;) I love the taste...You may not, sorry...

Point being, I dont think it tastes "woody" or anything like that.... Just a tasty piece of meat!

The prime rib at Cinderella's is very good - not great - but very good.

How about Shula's?? My hunch is that they prepare steaks in the "traditional" way--

Maggie - 'Ohana is in the Polynesian. Adults are 21.99, kids are 9.99 Drinks and desserts (other than pineapple w/carmel sauce) are extra.

Here's a link to their menu.

I think you understand my reservations, Andy , and I thank you for your opinion. I am planning L or D at CRT, but I probably won't have the prime rib. My inclination is toward the tenderloin or possibly Major Domo's pie.

Captain Cook : thanks for the info. I've eaten at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, and they have an oak grill. I was fine with the taste there. Some spots it's more pronounced than others. Is it really that strong at Flying Fish?

Uncleromulus : Shulas? Oh, that place with the ala carte pricing?

O.k. Now that we got Ohana's cleared up, does anyone else have any first hand experience with smoky/woodsy tasting steaks at Coral Reef, Kona Cafe or CRT?
