Steakhouse 71 to replace The Wave

Interesting choice of restaurant type.
Nationwide, there is much less interest in beef eating yet WDW opens a new steakhouse in the MK area. I wonder what casual means in this context. Guess I’ll wait to see the menu.

I believe it was 24 layer chocolate cake and Steakhouse 55 has been permanently closed
Thanks for the correction on the layer cake. I knew S55 had closed but they had done away with the cake before that.

It's a darn shame they closed The Wave. Best breakfast buffet IMO. It was also a travesty that they closed Steakhouse 55 in DL. I loved the breakfast there, too. (Can you tell what my favorite meal is?)
If Steakhouse 71 is anything like 55 we are in for a treat. I hope they have the smoked salmon eggs bennie!

I thought that the Wave was popular and had a good menu. Where they doing that bad that they needed to change the concept? I come from a city that pretty much only does steak good and the rest of the food is subpar, so am not really exited to see another steak house. I would prefer a more Florida food focus restaurant. Or pretty much anything other then another steakhouse.

I work there and it was actually really dating and needing an update. We really only got popular recently, I would say we were more of a hidden gem. When I first became a CM there, many people I told where I worked had never been or had no clue it existed!

Wave did not seem to be one of the busier restaurants on property and the price points were a lot more reasonable - with the direction Disney is taking of solely focusing on $$ this change I guess should be expected.

Steakhouses bring in the most revenue but IMO are the most boring dining concept around. Par for the course now.

Do you have any details on the menu? We love the Wave for the food and the value. I'm sure the food will still be good, but I'm super worried about the prices. Also, does this mean it will not be open for breakfast?

We will be open for breakfast. As for the final menu, I sadly don't have any details yet. More likely when I go back about a week before we open!

I'm cautiously optimistic that they will continue to focus on fresh ingredients the way The Wave did, and am willing to hold back on the pitchforks and flaming torches until we see a menu.

The original Concourse Steakhouse was fabulous, but some of that was due to the novelty of the location in the grand concourse of the Contemporary, and the fact that what is now California Grill was a dinner club with entertainment so there wasn't a whole lot of choices for table service in the area (even Poly had only one real restaurant, and it was more of a diner style). The location of The Wave was originally the Arcade. When I had dinner at The Wave for the first time, I was shocked at how little changed in the room (new carpets, lighting, and the addition of tables, chairs, and a bar seemed to be the full extent of the changes).

You people coughing better be wearing masks! :earboy2:

If I were to promote an opening of an upscale steakhouse, I'm not certain that I'd choose chocolate cake. If only there was a pic that really honed-in on the concept of a steakhouse...nah I can't think of it either. But I respectfully submit this slogan: Steakhouse 71 Come for the steak, stay for the cake!

Living in the Midwest with amazing corn fed beef, I really have very little interest in a grass feed beef restaurant. It has far less flavor and is much tougher. Not a dig at them, just a fact. Compare to a Kansas City steak and you'll understand.
I don't care how you prepare it, it is not the same.
Sad to see them change a great restaurant to something different.

I like both grass and corn feed beef for different applications but that’s just a matter of personal taste and still doesn’t say what’s on the menu.

Isn't Wagyu grass fed?

I am with the Concourse Steakhouse fans. We so miss it and did not care for the Wave. Hoping it is open at the end of September when we are there.

We loved that place too. It was a great "first night" dinner because the food was good, it was easy to get a table, and you could watch the monorails as they rolled through.

We liked The Wave very much but only dined there a couple of times. For various reasons we're not a big steak-eating family any more, they're going to have to do a good job with some other dishes on the menu to get us in there.
