Steak, steak or steak? I can't eat steak the entire trip, or can I????

The steak at MM is one of the best we have had anywhere including signature places. It comes with this amazing mac & cheese.

I agree with this. My DH always gets the Chicken Parm. and I usually get the steak with mac n cheese. However, on the last trip I was also feeling steaked out.... So when we got to this meal in our trip I switched to another dish. It was good, but it wasn't the MM steak and mac n cheese. I made a mistake and won't be making it again this trip!!!!!!

I am also another vote for the skillet at Whispering Canyon Cafe.... You get a lot of good food!!!!! BOG steak is a hit or miss.

Joy70 your thread title made me think of a Keith Morrison voiceover. ;)

I would totally eat a nice thick juicy medium-rare ribeye steak every day of my whole life if it wasn't cost prohibitive. And, you know, if it wouldn't make my heart explode after a while.

On vacation, though? Pfft! Indulge! If you want the steak, eat the steak! Enjoy yourself!

OMG I can eat beef all. the. time. I have many steaks on my list for my June trip, but also have duck, salmon & lamb too. I'm not a fan of chicken and have to be in the mood for pasta.

After looking over our reservations and menus for our upcoming trip (17 days and counting!) I've realized that most of the meals that sounded the best to me, and provided the most value for the DDP, were the steak choices. I love a good steak as much as the next person, but I don't know if I can eat it at every meal. I'd love to hear your opinions on which of the following offered the best steak, and if there was another choice you liked better than their steak offering. (Please no seafood choices!)

My ADR's include: Mama Melrose at HS, Chefs De France at Epcot, Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL, and Be Our Guest at MK.

Thanks for the feedback!

That's exactly why I stopped using the ddp. i hated planning my meals by value and not by what I wanted to eat. I've never had steak at any of these places. Why do you have to have steak??

My vote would be whispering canyon.

Lol..Loving this thread..Me and my son are huge puma eaters, my wife more fish, so this October we have free DDP for 14 nights, staying at WL, and our ADR selections have already been made,( for the 6th time ) Now being from Scotland, it has been said that us highlanders like our money's worth, or as my American cousins say " best back for your buck " ..lol...Yes and we have included five signature restaurants noted for their awesome steaks, but I've read great reviews on various sites, including trip advisor, about the Duck and cherries dish at Chef De France at Epcot, so I maybe quackers, but on that night, I'm gonna try that Duck, and if it turns out to be nothing great, I'll give the bill to my wife Daisy ...

We have free DDP and whilst I dont feel that need to achieve VFM I still seem to head for the most expensive steak on the menu. I'm trying to balance my choices out and allow myself a flatbread by justifying that it will reduce the tip I have to pay for that top end fillet

I always suggest that people order what they feel like eating at the time. No meal is a value if you are choking it down! LOL!

I also look at the options as an opportunity to try food that I would hesitate to try if I had to "pay" for it. WE purchased the CP package and paid OOP for it when we were there in December. My family LOVES Mexican food, but I generally stick with the Taco Bell stuff, so I am not very knowledgeable about what to choose, or what I would like. I ordered an appetize that had huitlacoche because I had never tried it. DELICIOUS! I doubt I would have added it to my bill had I not had it included in the package. Enjoy dining and choose foods that appeal to you at the time.

This is a great idea! I am always afraid to try new things because I worry about spending a lot of money on something and then not liking it. I do love a good steak, but sometimes it is just a "safe" choice, and who knows what other great dishes I am missing out on! That's one of the reasons for my original post - I wanted to find out where the best steaks were so I knew what places it would be best to skip the steak and try some new dishes at. Some really good ideas in this thread!

That is the thing with the dining plan.... in order for it to be of any value, you are kind of limited to steak.

I have had steak at each of the restaurants you have noted above (other than WCC) and I would not order steak there again. The one at BOG was the best for your choices, however. If it were me, I would order something else and of you really want a good steak, go to a steakhouse like Narcoossee's, Yachtsman, Shula's, etc.

The best steaks we've had for 1 credit at WDW are at MM, Coral Reef, and BOG, in that order. I am a seafood lover and don't eat it much at home, so I had gotten the seafood pasta every year at Mama Melrose.... until I tried the steak. This is my new go-to for steak, although I will still get it at the other places mentioned. We've eaten at CDF, but had the short ribs. They were just ok. The french onion soup and creme brulee were the real winners at CDF.

It sure is easy to get into that mind set though. I know I obsess ove that silly flatbread, but we had the DxDDP and my DD was ordering a flatbread for her entree. Now that woman is an accountant and she runs the books for a global company. All I could think was "we are losing money!!!!!" But she wanted flatbread. SHe knew she dipped the "value" but she knew what she wanted. AND that is really what vacationing is is.

So, I am a staff accountant at the same fix, and I can crunch numbers with her! So I soothed my old round it out brain with wine. Disney always wins! LOL!
Just an FYI for the next trip. You can order the flatbread as your app at Mama Melrose and still order an entree. We've done it the last 3 visits.

On another note. I hardly ever order a steak out anywhere for dinner because its too much food but when we are at disney I order probably one a day. I think its all the walking that makes me starving!
