We will be staying at the Caribean Beach Resort and I would love to walk to Epocott and/or to Hollywood Studios from there. I've read that you can't 'really' walk as there is not a pathway the whole way. Not 'really' is different from 'absolutely not'. I know that it would probably be a long walk and would need to be via a back entrance. I've read that there is an entrance to Epcot via World Showcase but I'm not sure about DHS. I'd like to know if anyone has ever tried this and if it's possible. I like a challenge!!! ;)

You will generally be advised to avoid walking on the WDW roads as there is not much in the way of pavement. It is physically possible though. Some people report bus drivers calling security on pedestrians walking off the roads. There have been a few threads in the past, this one is quite helpful as it has a map http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2361465

A lot of it depends on the time of year you go too, I've done the Epcot-DHS walk before but it's very tiring in the summer heat.

Ahh..... I didn't think about it being a security issue. I suppose they can't have people wandering across the roads. I wasn't sure what roads would be involved. Thank you for your link, it will be helpful. I would still like to try it but will give it a lot more thought. We like walking as much as possible on holiday and Disneyworld is no exception. It's obviously not set up for walkers though. Thanks.

You can't not walk to the parks from CBR there are no pedestrian entrances and no footpaths. There is also no easy way to walk to the parks even along the roads as they are all multi-lane.

You will be walking on average 7-10 miles a day just around the parks.

You can walk from CR to MK, Epcot International Gateway & DHS to BC/YC/BWI/Swan/Dolphin.

They will call security to come an collect you if you are seen on the roads. They also have the right to ask you to leave the property.

For your own safety and that of everyone on the roads please use the buses provided.

From CBR to EPCOT or DHS, you're looking at 900yds (minimum) walking on open roads (2 or 3 lanes each way) of fast moving vehicles, trucks and buses. No sidewalk, no proper road shoulder you could walk on (thick grass, snakes' paradise ...)

then you can catch a sidewalk just pas RCID fire station, and walk to the hess station, then the boardwalk and into EPCOT through international gateway

I'll be very blunt, so forgive me if I use strong words, but as far as I'm concerned, I think that anyone who seriously considers walking to parks from CBR, AoA or POP has a death wish.

But even if you manage to avoid the traffic and become road kill, there is always the chance of being arrested by Disney security or Osceola County or Orange County Sherriff

please don't try it, we value our fellow DISer and don't like seing them put themselves into harms way

Not a practical idea. I also suspect that an Orlando jail cell is considerably smaller than the rooms at CBR.

If you like walking there are plenty keen joggers who are familiar with various safe paths around the resorts. You might want to post on the main boards for some ideas.

OP, just out of interest, is this your first visit to Disney World? The reason I ask is that I think if you'd been before, you would understand why walking to the parks is just not practical at all. Whilst I understand that you like walking and want to walk at Disney, rather than taking transport, you will be doing a lot of walking within the parks each day. It' snot like you won't get any exercise.

If you do want to do additional walks, what about walking around your resort in the evenings (or first thing)? Or try walking from Epcot to Hollywood Studios or vice versa - that is actually a lovely route to walk. If you exit Epcot via International Gateway, you can walk around the Boardwalk and do a circuit around the lake too. There are plenty of places you CAN walk, please stick to those and not the places that you CAN'T.

At this point I think it's useful to tell OP that the Disneyworld property is about the same size as the city of Glasgow. And that the average driving/riding time between places is 15 to 20 minutes.

The average distance walked by a guest inside the parks is 10 to 15 miles per day.

This will be our tenth time to the Disney Parks but our first time staying on Disney property. When I thought about doing these walks, I thought that we would perhaps need to walk over a few grassy areas or cross a fairly quiet road. I never imagined or intended that we would cross roads with heavy traffic or cause a security issue. Perhaps some might think that is naïve but I'm sure we're not the first to wonder about it and we probably won't be the last. Thank you all for your comments.

I think we are just so used to being able to walk everywhere in this country that we take it for granted you can do it anywhere. Maybe that's why American kids can start driving at 15 in some states :)

The DTD area is walkable, so is the Epcot area around the park itself and to the BW/YC/BC and Swan/Dolphin areas. Anything else and it would be the equivalent of trying to walk down the hard shoulder of the motorway. I actually think it's illegal to do it over there. So stick to the buses wherever you can :)

as someone already noted, if you stay at the Contemporary Resort, you can walk to the Magic Kingdom (it's often faster to walk, rather than wait for the monorail).

If you stay at the Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk Inn, Swan and Dolphin you can walk to Epcot (entering at the international gateway).

I don't recall ever walking to DHS when we stayed at the Yacht Club, but maybe we did. I just don't recall. I think it was too hot and we took the boat.
