I know this is probably not done often but.....We are doing the 7 day cruise leaving 7/10/04...I was just wondering if anyone has ever stayed onboard the ship rather than go on one of the islands and just enjoyed the boat? Also, what kind of activities do they offer on board?

Thanks in advance

My daughter (5) thought all the coolest things to do were on the ship, so we didn't stay in St. Maarten or St. Thomas for more than a couple hours. They do have activities scheduled for port days, but really we just hung out at the pool. Not often you could get some elbow room at the Mickey pool, but on port days it was not crowded at all.

Hi jrydberg, from reading these posts you'll be suprised at just how many people do decide to stay on for a relaxing day on a quiet ship , the shops on board won't be open if you look at the navigators examples on either barbs site or daves dcl site you'll see whats planned for port days.

Our kids wouldn't let us leave the ship for more than an hour or so buying suveniers & walking around the ports. They wanted to get back to the Mickey Pool. Yes, we enjoyed ourselves very much staying on the ship for most of the day. :)

Castaway Cay is the only beach we even told the kids about & they loved it. That was the one day they didn't want to go back to the ship. DD stayed in the water all day long. :) It was easy to deal with the beach & the kids on CC. The other beaches would have involved car seats, & a ton of stuff to carry along with the kids. Not very relaxing to me. I was able to relax completely at CC since it was just Disney's island.

Do many people stay onboard during CC day??

MamaCrush,

Although we always get off at Castaway Cay, we don't stay all day. As a matter of fact, on our last cruise we came back to the ship for lunch, and skipped the Cookies BBQ. They had a yummy pasta bar in Parrot Cay, and it was nice and quiet. The views from the ship are beautiful. DS loves to play shuffleboard, so we play while we watch folks in the bay area on the boats.

Are you on the 1/29 Western? I wondered based on your countdown clock. If so, you will be getting on just as we get off, as we are on the 1/22 Eastern.

Counting Down!!!!!

We have a 1 and 4 year old and some of the best times we had were in port when we stayed on the ship. We came back from Castaway Cay right after lunch and had the pool to ourselves. Definitely skip an island and stay on the ship - especially if you have little ones and they like the pools.

We're doing the 7 day western in late August and have no desire whatsoever to get off the ship. We do not have one excersion planned but hope everyone else does so we can enjoy a quiet day onboard. We do plan on doing Castaway Cay, although now that I hear they are doing lunch on board we may do that too!

No mater what you do, enjoy!

Sometimes there is a matinee of the show - which frees up your evening. There are always movies. The pool isn't crowded. The sports deck is open, as is the Prominade Lounge. The character greets are minimally attended (although they don't tend to have the Princesses or other popular characters out - we did get Pluto to ourselves by the Mickey pool on CC day). The pools aren't crowded. And there are pretty constant programming events.

Thanks for the info. DH and I would love to get off the ship now and again to experience the ports-- but we plan on doing that on a future cruise! The key will be doing what our kids enjoy (3 & 4 by cruise time). Unfortunately, at this point they're not big beach fans, so it's good to know we have options available if needed on the CC day.

PiperG-- yes, we're on the 1/29 Western. Take good care of the ship for us and have a great time!

we went back around 12:30 on CC day. Had the pool all to ourselves until about 2:30 then one other child arrived and played for a while. It was one of the most relaxing days..... it was great.

As a veteran of 10 Magic cruises....we LOVE the Magic more than the destinations. We frequently stay on board. It's a great time for they pools, laundry, the gym....there are kid programs on land days.
