Can anyone help with some strategies to keep from straying too far from Weight Watchers while on vacation at the World?

We'll be staying at the Polynesian for a week in March. We love the restaurants all over WDW. Restaurants we will definitely and/or are likely to eat at include: Liberty Tree Tavern, Hoop-de-Doo, Kona Cafe, 'Ohana, Rose and Crown, Tusker House.

We'll be staying concierge (first time ever- woo hoo!!), and I think that will make grabbing a light and healthy breakfast easier. I'm hoping that starting the day with juice, fruit, oatmeal or cereal at the concierge lounge will work out well. I don't want to be a "diet Nazi" and spend tons of energy and time focusing on counting points during the week.

Does anybody have some words of wisdom to help me stay at least close to program during the week, while still enjoying the variety of dining experience at WDW?

I have the same problem... We are headed to Disney next weekend and I am hoping that I will be able to stay on Weight Watchers while I am there. I'm sure I won't be as faithful to it as I am at home. But I am hoping to make healthy choices (if I can resist the Mickey bars that is :D ) I also plan on walking a lot while we are there. I bought a pedometer today so I can see how far I am really walking each day. So hopefully I won't gain weight.

I wish I had this problem!!! No WDW trips on the horizon for me though!

On past trips when I wasn't even trying to lose weight I always have come home weighing either the same or less from all the walking. And that was eating cheeseburgers just about every day and, of course, a Mickey bar now and then!

I bet you'll do just fine. I remember hearing Oprah talking one day about her first vacation after her weight loss and how she told herself she could eat whatever she wanted on this trip. After a couple of days of that she found all she wanted to do was sleep and was so sluggish she went back to her more healthier choices.

I wish you both the best of luck!!! And most of all have a great time!!!!

First off, have a wonderful trip! Polynesian concierge - can I come with you? ;)

Drink all the water you can. Walk, walk, and walk!

If you have an entree that comes with bread (like a big bun or something) and fries, make sure you don't eat all of both! Or try to have substitute a salad for the fries.

I don't know how you CAN'T eat alot at 'Ohana. They just keep bringing on the food! ;) Fill up on the shrimp. ;)

Think about how you want to "spend" your points/calories. Is a Mickey bar really what you want - then go for it, but try not to overdo the rest of the day.

Oh heck, just have fun! I love to plan our WDW trips around where we are eating. It's part of the vacation. I'm sure you'll be moving around so much that the extra calories won't stick with you.

Sure, Tig, come along! The more, the merrier!

Thanks for the tips:

Bread/fries bad: check

Drink your water: check

Enjoy 'Ohana: double check (DH loves the coconut snowballs!)

Have fun: :p :p Absolutely!!

Kathy, my advice to you, is not to worry about.

I went in September and made low fat choices as MUCH as I could, and I gained 2 pounds.

I went again in january, and figured since I gained when I TRIED, I wouldn't even try. I gained 2.7.

I got back on track, and lost that 2.7 plus some.

I'm not saying to go hog wild, but when you have something, as others have said, split or, throw out half. I know the snack items are expensive at Disney, but your health is worth more than half of whatever food you're eating!

Avoid soda, and juice. Drink water. There are fruit stands at each of the parks. If you pass one, buy a couple of pieces of fruit and if you get hungry, eat the fruit. By the same token, if you want a mickey bar, and pass one, buy it, and enjoy it!!!!!

Enjoy!

The last time I was at WDW I actually lost weight. And I didn't hold back when eating either :p

The best advice I can give is to relax, don't obsess about what you are eating, drink plenty of fluids, and walk.

We're not going until July - and I'm already worrying about staying on plan...

Actually - I'm finding it easier all the time to do it - I think it becomes habit. I just know I'd REALLY like to be in something other than a size 22 bathing suit :p

Let us know how you do! I keep searching around for the point value of Tonga Toast...

I lost 2 pounds on our trip in December. I think not eating meat/being a vegetarian helped in this because there wasn't a whole lot I could eat. :) We are going to Disneyland in April and I will work to stay on my plan, which shouldn't be too difficult because I am allowed to eat anything I want (within reason) as long as I keep my total daily calories in check (between 1500 -1800 cal/day)
