We will be visiting Disney the 1st week of March 2011. However, we are not staying in the resorts. Is it possible to get a dining plan or do you have any suggestions about eating in the park (at a reasonable expense) ?

Thanks!

The dining plans are only available for onsite guests. Will the place you are staying have a kitchen?

Yes. We plan on doing at least breakfast on our own, but would like to be able to stay at the park the entire day. It's only adults going, so meal times do not have to be specific. We plan on bringing snacks with us, but we need some ideas for eating places.

We are also going to Universal for 2 days--especially for Harry Potter. Any eating suggestions for that as well?

Well there are a lot of choices for you. You can bring in full picnic type meals if you like or you can stick to the quick service places. On the main restaurant board there are many reviews of the different restaurants. You can find menus for most if not all at http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm. They list the prices as well. If you plan on doing any sit down restaurants you will need reservations. As your trip is quite soon you may not be able to make many for restaurants inside the parks, but there are many great places in the resorts and it may be easer to get reservations there. Some are walking distance from the parks. Sorry, I don't know a thing about Universal.

We did DD one year and last year we paid cash.. The meals are big so my wife and i shared the main meal and got a nice app..

But a word of advice, you need to make your res. quickly as your stay isn't that far away and people are already making ressies for that time.

Highly recommend Mythos in Islands of Adventure, Finnegans at the Studios, Emeril's and Bubba Gumps in City Walk. If you want counter service Big Thunder Falls in Islands of Adventure is pretty good and cheap for what you get or maybe try Three Broomsticks. Forgot the name of it, but the hot dog place over by Jaws in the Studios has good hot dogs and there is a chicken place right across the street from it that's not bad. Also the Croissant Moon bakery has some really good sandwiches with pasta salad and desserts.
