In Feb we are staying at WDW with our 2 year old. But after she goes to bed at night my husband and I would like to have a place to "hang out" for a bit. I was thinking of either staying at a resort that has a nice size balcony so that we can go out there, or maybe splurging for a concierge room so that we can take our baby monitor out to the common room but still have a place to "hang out" for a bit. How have other people handled this? Which hotels in the Magic Kingdom area have good size balconies? Which of the MK resorts have nice concierge floors?? We are only staying 1-2 nights (I know, what a bummer! But we also have a 6 month old who will be staying for that night(s) with her grandparents at their condo in Sebring, FL so we don't want to be gone for too long....)
thanks!

We have stayed in a 2 BR Villa with my family at Old Key West & loved that we could put our 2 year old to bed then either sit in the "living area" & watch T.V. or hang out on the patio (we had a 1st floor room). Maybe a 1 BR Villa would be a good idea for you. It is also nice to have the kitchen area so you can have drinks & snacks on hand.

 Have a Great Trip!

Any of the MK resorts have nice size balconies, so you'd be fine there. The exception are some rooms at the Poly, don't have balconies on the 2nd floor, so if you choose there, I'd make sure you request one. I personally wouldn't leave my child in any room at a WDW resort alone to go to a concierge lounge. They sometimes can be located on a different floor than you room, and too many people around the resort have "keys" to your room. I'd be terrified that something would happen. I'd rethink your stragegy of going to the lounge together after the baby has gone to asleep. I'd also recommend getting a one bedroom villa. It really isn't more expensive than a concierge room, and it actually might be cheaper. You can either place the baby in the bedroom, and you can hang out in the living room/kitchen area, or put the baby out there and hang out in the master bedroom. There is a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, as well as a tv in both the bedroom and living room.

We stayed ground level at the Poly, lagoon view. Wonderful!! You could put baby to bed, sit outside, watch the electric light parade (?...that's what we call it, think it's what the DIS calls it too), enjoy the lagoon breeze....I loved that room! And not at all far from baby.

i would check out BCV or BWV you could have a seperate bedroom and a living. Also some of teh room have a view of illuminations.

mickerbaby, the one thing you might want to think about is that sometimes February can be pretty chilly. We were there for a week this Feb and while it got very warm during the day, it was usually very chilly at night and early in the morning. So you may not be too comfortable sitting on a balcony, especially on a high floor where you'd get a big breeze too. We've never stayed in one of the villas, but they do sound like a good idea with small children so that you do have the chance to let them go to bed, but still have a place to stay up without waking up the baby.

IME, after a full day at the parks, the average two yr. old, once asleep, is down for the count. You could be tap-dancing 3 ft. away and the little darling probably would not move.

I really wouldn't worry about an entirely separate room. Just unscrew the bulb in the light fixture closest to where she is sleeping, and go on as normal.

I would NOT leave the child in the room alone, even with a baby monitor.

Some of the concierge rooms in the various resorts are on a different FLOOR than the concierge lounge. In other cases they are quite a hike from the lounge. While it's possible that if a nearby room is available, they will give it to you, its also very possible taht the rooms slosest to the lounge might be full, and you could end up forty rooms down the hall!

As others have mentioned your child will probably be down and out, and soft conversation will likely not disturb him/her.

We just did a trip with 2 DDs (4.5 yrs and 22 months) all in one room  ! This was our first trip ever where we were all in one room for an extended period of time (6 nights). Believe it or not, things went well. DD2 went to sleep almost right away (we tried to keep them on schedule as much as possible), and DD1 got a "treat" to lay in bed with mom or dad and watch TV (volume low). I am an avid reader, so I bought a $10 book light before the trip, and was able to read in bed every night until I fell asleep which was not much later than DDs! LOL. Don't underestimate how tired you will be after a day in the parks, especially with little ones.

If you are interested in a one bedroom villa, don't forget the Wilderness lodge also offers these (Villas at Wilderness lodge-VWL) and this is in the MK area in which you were asking.

We are going in January and we are staying at VWL with our 2yo. We are not staying in a one-bedroom, but a studio. Many people recommend the Wilderness Lodge with a toddler because of the proximity to MK and also to Fort Wilderness. You can walk on a path to FW and go to the petting zoo and other activities offered to kids. Just a thought. We would like to stay in a one-bedroom, but don't have enough points to do so and go again in September (Disney Vacation Club). So it is a studio for us. We are hoping as others have said that dd will be so wiped out that she'll just sleep and we can watch tv or whatever. ;)

Good luck and have fun deciding. For us making the plans is part of the vacation!

Since we are only going for two days and one night we want to stay somewhere right at the MK so that we aren't spending anytime driving or getting to and from the hotel. And we will also want to be close to the hotel in case dd needs to go back for a nap. So I guess that leaves us with the balcony idea (didn't realize that the concierge rooms could be so far off from the common room...thanks for that info!) But those of you who said that dd would be so exhausted that she wouldn't even hear the TV on low are probably right! Plus dh and I will probably be so tired ourselves that it won't matter if we go to bed at the same time as her!
thanks for all the info...and if someone does have even more info on a specific floor or room even at the Poly with a good balcony that might help. I think someone posted that the first level rooms may be good for our purposes....
Thanks!

You could still do the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge. The Wilderness Lodge if on Bay Lake, and there's a ferry boat that goes between the MK, The Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. It's a beautiful trip, and while it may take a little longer than the launches to from the Seven Seas Lagoon resorts (Contemporary, Poly, GF), it's probably faster than catching the Resort Monorail at the Contemporary and riding it all the way around.

It's not quite as convenient as the Monorail resorts, perhaps, but it really is a Magic Kingdom resort, and the Villas are beautiful. Plus, it's really nice to have the full-sized fridge in the room when you have small children.

One other thing - If you're only going to be there for one night, then where it is won't matter nap-wise. They cannot garantee you a room until after 4 so even if you check in in the morning, you may not have anyplace for her to nap until the late afternoon. And checkout is typically at 11 (though you can usually get late check-out and keep the room until 1, I think) so unless your DD naps really early or late, you probably won't have the room to run back to anyway.

Mur!
