Hello,

We are preparing for our first Disney World trip this month and i was wondering if there was any tips for wet rides. And what are the ones you get soaked the most?

I am planning on bringing a couple of zip-log bags to put cellphones and cameras but what about my backpack? Is there any room to put it on the rides? How does that work? Lockers maybe?

How do you stay dry during the ride or get dried after?

Thank you!

Poncho... Get them from your local dollar store and put them on while your a few people away from getting on the ride.

Splash mountain wasn't too bad we road it twice in the front.. My tip is keep your shoes off the ground or even bring a grocery bag to slip your feet in I heard the rapids at AK can be a wet one for feet

A cheap dollar store poncho. I save my Disney ones for when it's raining and I need it to walk around, it has better coverage. But the cheapy ones are perfect for water rides.

Baggy walmart poncho. Cost about 99 cents. They are big enough to fit a bag under neither them. Used one on Kali and stayed dry which is nothing short of a miracle on that ride.

This one depends on who's in your log and how high the water level is. If you have a heavier crowd and the water level is not low, the first 2 people are guaranteed to be soaked.

OP - sit towards the back, and preferably behind someone big :)

There's not much you can do on Kali River, not even with a poncho. It's hot enough now that you will most likely dry off in an hour (after wringing out excess water). If you are wearing socks, I'd take those off and put them in the zip bags.

I don't know if its even possible to stay dry on Kali. We stopped riding because a bit wet is fun--Kali seems to drown us every time.

Don't forget PotC too. Apparently the new boats are getting folks wet after the drop.

With Splash, you can get wet - a little or a lot.

With Kali, you have a pretty good chance of getting soaked to the skin. From what I'm told, ponchos don't help much. Be aware that you might get drenched, and either bring a change of clothes or wear stuff that will dry quickly. Some folks bring flip flops to wear when on the ride so their shoes don't get soaked.

They now have lockers just outside Kali to stash your stuff - they're free for a brief time. Then your backpack won't get wet - there's not enough room in the center section of the ride vehicle for a backpack.

why go on water rides if you dont want to get wet? isnt that half the fun.. that being said on splash you dont really need much of anything just lift your feet up and duck right before the splash. the river rapids even with a poncho you could still get soaked but on the other hand you might barely get wet, really you never know with that ride.

I didn't say i didn't want to get wet just trying to not get too wet :) It is fun to get wet but not as fun when the ride is over and you have to walk with soaked sucks or having to go into a restaurant.

Thanks everyone, i do have water shoes and i am planning on changing into those before these rides. I will definitely go get more ponchos too.

We've never gotten really wet on Splash. You could wear a poncho but it won't do anything for your shoes/feet. Kali River Rapids straight up puts you through a waterfall so it's basically a shower with your clothes on. We've yet to do Kali because we never want to get that wet, but if/when we want to try it, we'd bring a backpack and rent a locker for the day so we could change our clothes after. A poncho won't save you on Kali.

Ditto with the above! Dollar store ponchos are the best on both Splash and Kali River Rapids, although my feet still gets wet on the Rapids even with a poncho on.

One thing regarding shoes for Kali River Rapids - you are not allowed to go on with bare foot so what I do is I bring a pair of flip flops for change so my sneakers and socks will stay dry.

Just as an FYI, Kali exists solely to get wet, there is little to no story -you can watch it on YouTube and not miss anything except the smell of burning, and you can get that smell on Spaceship Earth without getting wet.

No, not for everyone. Or getting wet is amusing, but BEING wet for hours after isn't fun. That gets rather chafey.

Ponchos are great because it feels like you're getting splashed with water, but there are no lasting waterlogged consequences.

Except that you have to have the poncho on perfectly. I tend to get water going down the neckhole, and if I don't wrap the bottom of the poncho around my legs and under them, I get splashed (on rides like Kali or Grizzly out in Anaheim) from underneath, as the water comes into the raft and then splashes UP with the motion of the raft or momentum of the water.

DH is a bigger guy, but he rarely gets wet. The people around him do, though....so I don't know about the advice to sit behind someone bigger! That's pretty much how my brother got soaked to the bone on Disneyland's Splash...

Best option is to wear water wicking clothes, even underclothes. And take off your socks (or have a change), and have some shoes that won't be squishy later.

The story is about how clear-cutting forests causes other problems.

But in order to even attempt to stay dry on Kali you need a poncho, some water shoes or flip flops that dry quickly, and a lot of luck.

Also, do not depend on the container in the middle to keep your stuff dry. It helps, but you really need to put your things into a baggie, then into the container.

If it's a hot day and I don't mind getting wet, I don't wear the poncho. If I DON'T want to be wet at all, I always don the poncho.

Regardless of weather, I ask for a plastic bag from a nearby giftshop and actually put my feet in the bag and hold the top of it closed so my shoes don't get wet. Wish I was kidding but I'm not! It's the only way I ride Splash.

We rode Kali once. We went backwards down the drop. Nuff said. We were soaked to the bone. I'm definitely taking a poncho for Splash. I like water rides, but hate walking around soaked. There is a reason why my parents never let us ride Snake River Falls at Cedar point with I was younger....lol

For Kali...be sure you're covered in back, and are sitting on the poncho!!! If you're sitting in the area that is going to get wet, the water hits and then will slosh around the back of the seats! So, if you're not careful, your front stays dry but your back side is soaked!!! I won't ride Kali if it's under 80 degrees!!!! Also, I try to save it for the end of my AK day..then I can go back to the resort and change....although that bus ride can be nasty if you're wet!!!
I've been soaked to the skin on Splash Mt....actually had to buy our girls new underwear in the Emporium...yes, they were that wet!! When my friend and I sat on the curb to drink some nice hot coffee, our behinds left a nice, wet imprint when we stood up!!! Nice!!!!
