If we're staying at a DVC resort at WDW (we are DVC members) can we drive to Vero and go to the beach for a day and use Disney's beach and some of their facilities? If not is there another beach you'd recommend? My youngest has never been to the beach or ocean we'd thought it would be nice for a day trip thing.

They used to permit this, but that was many years ago. I'd give the resort a call and ask them. It may depend on how busy of a season it is during your visit. My visits were mostly during the summer - not peak season. I doubt they get many requests - driving 4 hours round trip to use the beach or pool is something not many guests are willing to do <g>.

I'm not really sure I want to. It would be nice for my 2 DDs to play in the sand and the ocean, and we'd be able to see the Vero Resort, but I don't if I want to take that time out of our vacation. It's a 2-3 hr ride from our house to a beach too.

Do they have their own beach or is it a public beach?

Vero's a loooong drive. I know what you mean, though. My DS had never seen the ocean when we went to florida. We drove over to Cocoa Beach (about an hour each way). He was absolutely fascinated. You might consider that. Pleanty of shells, sand and lifeguards.

The beach at Vero is a public beach. The resort might allow you to use the pool ,but the gate does have a card operated lock on it.

If you just want to spend a little time at a beach, I'd just head over to the Daytona area - it's a lot closer than driving to VB.

Quite a few Florida State Parks, on ocean and gulf side have facilities to change and a beach to use. I would use one of those, there may even be lifeguards. The public beach by VB does not have lifeguards. The very small state park, that was just on the corner did have lifeguards, but that little state park wasn't functional when I last checked. Maybe someone knows if that beach is guarded now.

Yep, or Cocoa Beach. Both are great beaches.

Or if you want a quieter beach (i.e. smaller waves) drive west to St. Pete Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. Still a little shorter drive than Vero.

The gateway to the beach in front of the resort also requires the use of your KTTW card.

I agree with mikesmom, try Cocoa Beach or another beach nearby.

Two or three years ago, DH and I decided to take a drive over to Vero Beach from Orlando.
I think it took about an hour and a half. The CM showed us around the property and we were also shown the 2 BR. (I believe we had to show our blue membership card) He teased us about staying at Marriott, instead of staying at DVC!

The property is beautiful! That being said, we both thought the ocean looked too rough and the beach was very narrow. (We both grew up near the ocean) Of course, the area may have "restructured" itself due to the hurricanes.

Now, all you Vero Breach owners, please don't feel bad:) ...this is just my opinion! It certainly is one very lovely place!

As noted, the beaches are public but not the access. Technically no DVC resort allows day use and VB is not part of the pool hopping. But many have been allowed access over the years while others have driven down only to be turned away. If I wanted to do this I'd call and speak with a manager. I'd record their name and info if they said OK. I think just driving down hoping it works out would be nuts.
