Do you know if you are staying at a Disney property not using points if you can still pool hop if you show your DVC card?

Here's a kindler and gentler no, you may not pool-hop in this scenario.:D :D :D

No insult intended, just a cryptic answer.

This has been a HOT topic over the years, so pehaps that is why the first reply was so emphatic! The answer to your question is still the same - no.

I appreciate the kinder answer. I didn't see the "hot topic" in the past. Sometimes I'm afraid to ask questions of this crowd!

No reason to be, they can be quite helpful. And as far as BBS go, this is one of the most cordial you'll find. There are some real shark tanks out there. You can always email or Personal Message directly to someone that seems to fit your needs, most of us have our email listed. You got the answer to your direct question but was there more info you needed?

I have a variation to the question:
Are you allowed to PH if you are staying at a resort using a DVC incentive? (i. e. complimentary stay for purchasing BCV points back in Feb)
We used our first complimentary stay in Jun and our parking pass had, "Disney Vacation Club Member" on it. I wasn't sure I liked being identified like that--'cause I was worried about getting treated differently. But, maybe that is a good thing to have on your parking pass :) ?

If your card key also says "Member" you would be able to hop. If it doesn't, then no.

PamOKW,
My room key card was just a regular key card so far as I can tell. If you stay at a resort on points, do they give you special room key cards?

Good question. It's been awhile since I've stayed non-DVC so I can't answer.

I'd ask the guide about the incentive stays and pool hopping. My guess is they will say yes but you might have difficulty if your card does not say member. You may want to ask them for a letter. It has been reported that room keys staying at non DVC resorts ON POINTS do now say member, I'm sure someone with direct experience can confirm or correct.

The rule for pool hopping as I've heard it is "DVC member staying on points". Thus you have to show a room id which shows your resort and DVC member on it. It's a good question if you are using points at Disney collection instead if they consider that the same- after all you are a member staying on points- the question is do you have to be using those points at DVC resorts only?

The pool hopping privilege is tied to point stays at DVC resorts only. Not a DVC resort, no pool hopping. Not on points (even at a DVC resort), no pool hopping.

Right as usual , Dr P! I was just checking at the member site to clarify and here is the policy

"Pool-Hopping Information for 2002

Disney Vacation Club Members and their guests staying with them at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Beach Club Villas are permitted to use other Walt Disney World® Resort and Disney Vacation Club resort hotel pools (other than the hotel at which you are staying) if these pools are not at capacity on any given day. Please check with the front desk of the destination hotel regarding pool availability. A Walt Disney World Resort ID card identifying you as a "DVC Member" is required to use the other pools. This offer is not available at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

I'm pretty certain that some have reported staying at non DVC resorts on points and having their room key say member as well.

Thanks, Karen. I went straight to the site, too, but you beat me to posting the link. It does not explicitly say that you have to be staying on points, but I know that has been the expressed policy whether it is enforced or not.

Dean, I'm not sure, but even if a non dvc resort id says dvc member on it, it would still be from the wrong resort. I guess it depends on how closely they look at the ID;)
