We are looking at staying at HH b4 our first cruise. What is the travel time down from there? Should we look at staying somewhere closer? What time can you start boarding?

Hilton Head is about 5 hours from the port without stops! Are you coming in same day? I would leave really early and a boarding time will be assigned to you.

Im guessing you are DVC members that's why you want to stay at hh before cruise. I will leave the day before and stay at port canerval. That way you will be all fresh for your cruise and not tired.

Unless you are absolutely set on HH, Vero Beach is less than an hour and a half from Port Canaveral.

Edit: VB is further south than PC so if you are driving down from up north, obviously that's not a good idea.

We are in NC. I have been trying to determine the best overnight place to stay since we would leave at 4PM the night before. It would be about 7 hours to Jacksonville. That would leave about 2 hours the next morning. I wouldn't stay at HH because 5 hours the next morning can create problems.

I lived on HH for just over two years. There is only one bridge on and off the island. I've seen many accidents where it takes HOURS to get either on the island or off the island, not good if you are trying to make a cruise. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't stay there if I needed to be somewhere at a certain time.

I love Hilton Head, and the resort is great, but I think staying the night before the cruise is a little risky. It's a 300 mile drive, and any construction/accidents could cause delays.

We did this a couple years ago. We stayed at the HHI resort for 4 nights and then got up and headed to the port for a 3 night on the dream. We left HH around 7:00 am. This was in early June.

Cool thanks all. Maybe we will stay on our way back. I like the idea of Vero the night before. Not afraid of the 5 our drive, but being stuck with one bridge is the big one. Ships don't wait.
