The pool at the CR looks extremely boring and the Poly pool is much nicer. Is this allowed? Are you required to show your room key to enter the resort pools?

Edited to add: Lordy, I just realized this is a BAD THING by doing a search. Never, never, never will I do such a thing! :badpc:

Pool hopping is not allowed. And yes, I'm afraid that the CR pool is not very exciting.

We stayed at the CR this past summer and I loved the pool there. We stayed in a Garden Wing room and the pool was right outside our wing, so easy to get to. We spent hours at the pool, especially when it was so darned hot outside. We got the refillable mugs and just kept going back to get the icees every hour or so.

Plus with the view of the lake from the pool, it just seems so much bigger and more like a vacation spot.

You'll love the CR pool.

We also love the CR pool. We all go down the slide and like the open atmosphere with the perfect view of the lake.

I along with my DS (7) thought it was the worst pool we have been to. The slide was lame, the lifeguards rude and the area not very clean. DS was there 10 minutes and was bored. There is no kiddie pool, just some squirt things that come out of the ground. Not very amusing, for my 2 yo DD. We loved the CR, but unless they redo their pool, will never stay there again. Its horrible.
But to answer your question, no you are not supposed to pool hop.

So people actually base choices about resorts on the size of the pool?

Sure, why not?

Everyone has their amenities that are important to them.

My kids love to swim and we make time in our schedule to do that. The resort is part of the vacation for us.

That's why it's great Disney has the wide variety of choices they do.

Can we just "see" the volcano pool...we're staying at SoG and I just wanted to show my son the pool, not swim there (he loves VOLCANOES). Would that be possible?

I don't see why not. I think some people take time to tour different resorts than those they stay at...my sister did.

Oh, I agree; we rarely go to the parks anymore.

Remember when pools were just, you know, rectangular holes with diving boards?

There's no problem with that.

When we stay at SOG and walk to the Poly to catch the monorail, we usually walk around the grounds of the Poly too. It is so beautiful there day or night. We've walked around several pools at various resorts, usually before or after dinner, but we never did anything but look. It's a great way to see what's at the different resorts!

We love the pool at CR, they have a fun slide and a small water fountain and a hot tub.

My kids never had any complaints, as a matter of fact, they love it!

It's only allowed if you bring a refillable mug from a different resort.

I thought the biggest problem with the CR pool was the depth. its not zero entry and it ain't deep. :confused3 I'm guessing 3.5 ft. to almost 4 ft? tops. It does however have some very nice fountains that are pretty and it is of a nice size. It does have a very beauitful setting. And 2 hot tubs! One is pretty large. ;) There is a second pool the "quiet" pool further out near the lake, it is round and interesting in the fact that it gets deeper in the middle and shallower towards the ends. Over 5' ft deep in center at least. This pool is much deeper, and is one of the 2 original pools to the cr. Has a nice pool deck area surrounding it that appears to be sitting our over the lake.

We have enjoyed the CR's pools They have the lake, sand beach, vollyball, marina, 2 pools, snack bar, and cocktail bar available. They usually play popular music at the pools. In the summer, I remember doing the polka "chicken dance" right in the water with the cm's leading it. :earseek: There are alot of chairs and tables availble but watch the convention traffic cause sometimes there are a large amount of adults in suits awaiting meetings out there during heavy conventions.

Try it out and be open minded, we found it fun & refreshing. Its supposed to be a siloutte of mickey. ::MickeyMo Have a great time! Mky princess:

The CR pool is horrible. Floor needs to be resurfaced and in my opinion that needed to be overhauled before the rooms. snack area looks like the YMCA.
but we did swim in it, just didn't love it compared to poly,WL or BW.

But I will say CR has the best rooms. I loved the rooms the way they were: spacious and oh what a view in the tower facing MK.

I agree that the CR pool doesn't look too interesting. My mom has always wanted to stay at the CR so I made sure to book it when it was too cool for the pool! We love the Poly and hang at the pool every day. I am really hoping the temp drops by next week so I won't miss that pool too much!

I would be suprised if a CM even bothered to ask if you were from that resort. You could easily take the Monorail to the poly and get in the pool. I have heard but have never been told not to pool hop. Although we never have. I could hardly see how they would stop it. Have fun. If you really want to go ahead the worse they can say is no.

Honestly, 99% of the population of people visiting WDW have never visited one of these discussion boards. And, the anti-pool-hopping rule isn't explained anywhere. So, it stands to reason that some guests make the honest mistake of assuming that they are free to use the amenities of other Disney resort hotels. Why else would newbies come on to these boards and ask the question?

My suggestion is to use your own judgement. During dinner time, few pools are particularly crowded. Monorailing over to the Poly in the evening to pop into the pool isn't going to subtract from any else's enjoyment of the pool.

Before anyone asks the question, "what if everyone did it?" that can be answered by "everyone doesn't do it." A relative few even think about. Even less make the effort to pack up and head to another pool. It only became an issue at Stormalong Bay.

At the end of the day, if you really liked your room at the Contemporary and enjoyed the pool there and enjoyed being able to bop over to the Poly for a swim, you're likely to repeat that vacation again in the future. The folks at Disney aren't going to work overtime to prevent you from this. In fact, if it's no skin off of anyone else's back, and it contributes to your overall enjoyment, they likely are glad you did it.

I disagree with the person who said people don't know about no pool hopping. At Fort Wilderness check-in you are required to SIGN a form saying that you know and agree that there is no pool hopping.

Common sense would also tell someone that pool hopping is not allowed ... if someone were honest, they would tell you that they KNOW and/or would assume that even though no one told them. Most people don't go to their local/hometown hotel(s) to use the pool, even though they have not booked a room. Or am I wrong about that??
