Staying at AKV in Standard Value Studio Right Now - Room Observations

Did you notice how many hangers are in the wardrobe --- are there enough? Woud it help to bring a pack of hangers with you to hang up your clothes instead of put them in a drawer? --- Just trying to plan my trip - yippee! :)

I counted 15 in ours. We did end up using them for our clothes too.

Looks to me like this is mostly an issue with studios. We don't tend to stay in studios even for just the 2 of us, so it wont likely be much of an issue for us. I suppose it is an issue for the locked off second bedroom though too. Is there a closet in the main living area of the 1 and 2 bedrooms?

Yes most of the 1BRs have a closet in the living area. There may be a few that do not. The closet is in the kitchen area, as shown in the floor plans below that show a non-Value 1BR on the left and a Value 1BR on the right. That little rectangle in the middle of the closet doors in the floor plan on the right is probably a mistake. It appears to be a wall safe that was dragged and dropped into the middle of nowhere by whomever worked on this floor plan.

You guys are making me nervous! We have a Value studio booked for 3 n. next July pre-cruise - we're doing back-to-backs on the Wonder so it will be a 10 day vacation and I expect we will be over-packed as usual - although I'm going to try using duffles next time 'cuz they take up less room... I don't normally UNpack & put our things in the drawers tho - we live out of our suitcases so I need to be able to get into them. (I just can't put my things in where someone else has had their things - it's an anal retentive heebie jeebie thing:lmao: ). But from reading this I am thinking that the luggage is going to have to be stored under the bed like we have to do on the ship... Does anybody know what the clearance is under the bed?:confused3 Do you think we can we fit a 10" or 12" deep suitcase (maybe if it's opened up) if I don't use duffles?! Is there enough floorspace in the corner to set 3 large duffles?:confused3

I posted some photos on this thread.

There was barely any room for our stroller. He had to leave it blocking the door or push one chair right against the table and put it behind there. I don't know if you can tell from the photo but the luggage tray (I don't know if that is what is called) was next to the armoire and it couldn't flatten all the way down. There was actually no where else to put in the room.

The best place to store luggage we found was under the sink area.

I think we were unlucky to get a studio without the extra closet. I think most dedicated studios will have one.

Annie,

You need to check out packing cubes - at first glance it may seem like a waste of money, but I guarantee any anal retentive person will LOVE them (I speak from experience <g>). Your packing will take up less room, wrinkle less, be more organized, will be a breeze to unpack AND you can just dump the packed cubes in the drawer and your clothes will never touch the actual drawer previously touched by the clothes of others! If you still don't want to put them in the drawers, there is no question the individual cubes will fit under the beds if the suitcases don't. (I would never leave my suitcases open under a hotel bed, but that's one of MY "anal retentive" issues, I guess!)

They come in lots of sizes, and different colors, too (I bought a different color set for each family member.) I bought mine from ebags.com, but I'm sure they are available in other places.

I agree! Someone else made some similar suggestions here about the AKV Studios, namely to remove the vacuum cleaner, ironing board, iron and pack and play entirely and have them be available from housekeeping on request. I would guess that very few members use any of those items let alone all of them. It would free up some badly needed storage space in the AKV studios.
Agreed! I'll never use any of those things and would prefer more storage space instead.

I can see removing the ironing board, iron and vacuum cleaner from the studios as long as they remain EASILY retrievable in enough quantity for all guests who might want them to have them.

However, removing the pack 'n play could be an issue. In Sept. I traveled to wdw with another couple and their 16 month old. We stayed at POR and I had asked during the reservation process if we needed to specifically request a pack 'n play for the 16 month old. I was reassured that they knew a 16 month old needed one and that it would be in the room when we arrived.

Well, it wasn't there. And, when my friend called to ask about it she was told that they don't put them in the room unless they get a specific request after check-in. Plus, they wouldn't tell her when she'd get it and said she'd only get one if they weren't already 'out'. This can be a problem for guests who arrive with a tired child after a day of travel.

I remember thinking that this was a problem that would never happen at DVC because all units had their own pack 'n play. Even though I don't have a young child, I think that it is one of the great perks of DVC that parents don't have to worry about whether or not they will find a bed for their child when they arrive.

From what I recall from our 1 night studio stay, the beds are on a platform and there is no room under the bed. Are you talking about lifting up the mattress to store items.

There was very little storage space in our Sav. Studio as I recall and that Pak n Play does take up the bulk of space.

We check into a 1 bedroom on Saturday, but I am getting kind of anxious about the space. We are staying for 2 weeks so we will have it all, plus our Christmas stuff.

I am thinking instead of luggage I need to pack in bins that can nest or stack when empty:laughing: No time for ebags!:scared1:
Won't I look a sight rolling into Concierge with my bins:lmao:

When I stay in a 1 bdrm I usually only bring clothing for 3-4 days and do laundry every 2 days. Would that help?

I have 2 boys and a Dh so even that is a fair bit of clothing and luggage to store. Plus December you need to be prepared for colder weather as well as warm weather. Add in our Christmas stuff and it gets crowded real quick.

We will manage, and Im sure we will have a great time:santa: We will probably wait to stay at AKV again until the new larger 1 bedrooms open, but Im excited to give Concierge a try:wizard:
