I own 200pts resale at BWV. In 2027 I want to stay at the cabins at Ft Wilderness because my parents have agreed to go to Disney if they can stay in their camper. They are only going to come once so I don’t need a long term solution.

Can I purchase transfer points and then book the trip in my own account? Will I be able to see the cabin availability in my account when I search for availability?(I cannot see Rivera or Ft. Wilderness currently)

If someone books the reservation for me with their account, can I transfer it to my account or does the reservation have to stay in their account?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge and expertise!

300 of the cabins are cash still, and the rates can be great with discounts ( they were $305 a night in the summer) Rent some points and book using cash you make.

The math for March Break seemed to be that I would need 40% off rack rate to match the cost at $18/point. Someone shared that it is somewhat easy to get a 7 month cabin for March so $18-$19 seemed in the realm of reasonable. It’s definitely still on my consideration list.

If you purchase a rental for which the reservation is done by the other member using that member's points, the member will put the reservation in your name as the lead occupant but it cannot be otherwise transferred to you, i.e., the member essentially retains control until arrival date. That is the risk for all such rentals and one that seems acceptable to now thousands of people who are purchasing such rentals, i.e., the members doing such rentals are generally not crooks.

You could have points transferred to you by another member in which case you would have complete control once the transfer is made. You could make a reservation with those transferred points by contacting MS to do so. As to whether you will be able to actually check online for availability is something I do not know the answer to. However, one thing I do know the answer to is that under the terms of all POS's, members are prohibited from transferring points to another member for any compensation. That has always been the rule, but DVC has not enforced it (as long as the one calling to do the transfer, or to make the reservation with transferred points, does not say the points were purchased). Nevertheless, DVC could, at any time, decide to start enforcing the no-transfer-for-compensation rule.

If you do not own points that are unrestricted, you can’t typically see availability for the restricted resorts even with transferred points.

Maybe one of the rental companies can assist with a points exchange? Not something I’ve looked into but your points at BWV would be pretty desirable.

I’d see if you can find someone in the board who would swap their direct points or grandfathered points for your BWV resale points to cut out middlemen costs.

Are your BWV points your only points? The issue with trying to transfer points to you is that it locks up both the giver and the receiver of the points from any other transfers for that Use Year.
