Staycation

Our first trip back in Oct. 2020 we did resort only (BCV) 1 bdrm. We loved the quiet pool and Stormalong Bay. We really enjoyed walks around the board walk, rode the entire sky liner route in the day and at night and rode the friendship boats. We rented a car so we drove around Orlando a bit to see what else was outside the Disney bubble. We also shopped for groceries and had quite a few meals in. It was also nice to have lunches sitting at the pool or have cocktails late in day and just go up and put in a pizza. Since we knew we were doing this kind of vacation we packed accordingly with soft sided coolers and insulated cups etc. We thought it was one of our most relaxing Disney vacations. We saw enough Disney and we never rushed to anything.

Like a previous post I think of "staycation" as being at home but not working and doing stuff locally you haven't done or redoing things you enjoy.
As far as Disney, I guess for us it would be a staycation as we live 30 minutes away. We are to the point that there is no interest in going to the parks any longer. The last time we went, it was to Fort Wilderness in our own RV. No parks. Unfortunately there was too much closed due to the Rona to enjoy what the Fort normally has to offer. We are done with the Fort now as well. We'll be doing other Florida experiences, or traveling further out for fun.
For those interested in camping at Fort Wilderness once things open back up I will say that there is enough to do there without having to do parks and it really is a cool place to be. Halloween and Christmas are truly the best times to go as the campers have their sites decorated, arguably better than the parks or other resorts. The down side is it fills up a year or better in advance for those time periods.
I've never stayed in a cabin but I hear they are nice and good for families.
Check out the camping forum here at the DIS for information and experiences from a lot of Fort regulars.

If I was going to do a "no parks" trip, I'd probably do AKL or something in Disney Springs. I don't know if I could handle seeing Cinderella castle and not going to MK or being between Epcot and HS and doing neither.

We did a Staycation in 2020 and loved it! We just got back from a week at WDW with 4 park days, and remarked how we missed the Staycation! We were able to use the pool and resort amenities and be flexible around crowds. We had a car and drove to various resorts for character dining. We bought groceries and cooked in our DVC villa.

We were at AKL Jambo, and loved sitting on the balcony and watching animals.

Best one to do a staycation is animal kingdom lodge with a savannah view. Such a unique hotel, great restaurants and pools. I’ve done it before it was fun

AKL savann view is great for resort-only stays. Also BC & YC because of stormalong bay. A monorail or skyliner resort also provides a lot of access to areas to explore and lots of dining outside of the parks. Lots of good choices!
