stay on points or pay with money

We are going down from dec 1-9 and staying at ssr. my question is we are driving and we might get there early all depending on the weather??? (which I hope is good!) Has anyone try to call dvc the day before and try to reserve something with points or is it easier to call 407 w-disney to book a night at all stars or something that is open? Or can you drive up and book a room that way? I do not want to stay at a holiday inn.. I have 335 pts to boot, so I have pts to stay on. Thank you! Carrie

Since those dates have likely been "sold out" and are probably still on someone's waitlist, I'd be very surprised if you could get anything last minute early December unless you got extrememly lucky with someone elses cancellation. You could always use points at one of the other non-DVC resorts, but you'd have to pay the $95 exchange fee.

I have reservation already for ssr... but we might get there early by one day. I am not on a waitlist.

What dianeschlicht is saying is that the extra night you may want is probably sold out. This time of year is one of the busiest at WDW DVC resorts and there have been waitlists in effect for months. Some members have been on them since the 7-month mark so the odds of you getting something at the last minute are pretty small. Personally, I'd Priceline or Hotwire something for that night and then check into SSR early the next morning.

WELL I would have to agree, maybe with a little luck and Pixie Dust there might be a cancellation available but you better call now.

I have called several times including during the busy December weeks and obtained a reservation day of. It usually takes several minutes on the phone with DVC but they always seem to come up with a cancellation or a room that just opened up in their inventory. I was not picky about where I wanted to stay though and usually say I will take whatever you got!

If push comes to shove...The Holiday Inn Express on Palm Parkway is pretty nice.

I hope you can find something on property thought!

Thanks everyone.. Yeah I would take anything they have.. I dont even care if its at ssr. I would rather its not only because I have the dining plan. that would just be an extra day I would have to pay for too. I dont want to call dvc until I know that we are some what going to make it on the 30.. if the weather is bad or what ever. Car breaks down. you just never know and I dont want to lose the pts. I would hope the car wouldnt break down (it only has 1100 miles on it) but hey you never know!! I will post when we get down there how the trip is going! thanks everyone!!

I have been reading on other threads where people are calling around 9:30 am and getting rooms before they hit the waitlists. You might luck out and get something if you call now or wait until you are enroute. I would reserve something somewhere else, just incase....that way you can usually cancel an offsite reservation until 4pm of the day of arrival...you also might get a room at one of the moderates...goodluck..we arrive on the 7th! Whoohoo!
