Stay off site or on site? Which do you prefer.

Just curious to see how many of us DIS'ers stay off site vs staying on site. :confused3 this will be our 7th trip to WDW and we have never stayed on site. We really enjoy having the space a house has to offer. And the cost to rent is so inexpensive. This trip the house is costing us $900.00 for the week plus we are going with my 2 sisters and families......... So, $300.00 per couple can't be beat.

I would love to hear where everyone prefers to stay!

Only 3 of us and we fly, so no car unless rented. For us renting house does not make much sense and I really like that they clean while we are in park ;). We stay on property but we stayed off site once and also loved it, and that hotel had OK transportation, we do not need midday breaks. Our favorite is CBR but we are very open for offsite experiences.

Both. As long as we can go, we stay at either. We are not going to stay home because we can't stay on site. :)

I love staying onsite, esp. at the monorail resorts. We're DVC members so it's an easy decision for us but I've been tempted by pics of the Waldorf near DTD.

This. :thumbsup2

We will actually be staying offsite when we go as a family because we now have five people. So much cheaper and we can get two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and my favorite......a washer and dryer. Even with a car rental, we still come out cheaper offsite. Now with airfare so high, we will be driving our car anyway.

We are driving too. So this is the cheapest way for us to get to Disney!..... We are renting a 6 bedroom 4 1/2 bath house with full kitchen, washer dryer, heated pool and hot tub! The house has 3 master bedroom with in room baths. Then it has 3 bedroom with 2 twin beds in each room. This house will fit the 12 of of perfectly!

We prefer off-site. We like the extra room you get. We really don't do commando trips anymore and like to go back and spread out. Everyone gets their own bedroom/ bathroom and we have our own pool. Plus I like having a washer and dryer to throw a load in and a kitchen to have a snack.

Even when we drive we rent a car and never buy anything in the parks to charge to our room or send back and usually avoid EMH so there really isn't any advantage to staying on-site for us.

We do both depending on how many people are traveling. Last trip it was my mom and I and it made more sense to stay on-site with free dining. Other trips there have been as many as 9 of us so it makes more sense to rent a house. I enjoy both for different reasons.

We are an on-site only family.....even with 6 of us! Yes...it would be cheaper and we would have way more room if we rented a house....but you just can't beat the magic on staying on site, the food plan, not having to rent a car, etc.

We have done both, and like both for different reasons. But for stays of 10 days or more we split it....usually 6 days off-site and 4 days onsite to get the whole experience and the most bang for the buck.

We have done both. I'm a dvc member so I can stay at a deluxe at a reasonable price. I would never ever pay the price disney wants for a deluxe. It is so not worth it for my family.

When dh and I sneak away we tend to stay at the Waldorf. We love it, true pampering, super deluxe, fabulous food for 1/3 the price of a disney deluxe.

Just depends on what type of trip we're taking in.

whether on site or off, we always have a car so disney transportation is not a selling factor for me.
The only perk I miss offsite is the EMH's

We have stayed both onsite and offsite equal amount of times. With teenage girls loved the room offsite but going back this year and we are all squeezing into POR simply because they wanted to stay onsite and we were able to get free dining. Deluxe wasn't in the cards and since we are going in a holiday season I def. wanted onsite.

We are actually saving a decent amount of money staying onsite this time.

Last fall it was Windsor Hills townhouse for $700, tickets for $1355 (6 days MYW) and w food totaled more than $3000

This year POR, free dining, 7 day PH for around $3100......LOT less room but we will take it :).

I will miss MOST the lack of inhouse washer/dryer. I love to put a load in daily and go home w/ clean clothes!
BTW 5 of us.

I would love to stay on-site if I could get a 2 bedroom for the price or even close to the price of off-site.

But we stay off-site because we can't handle just a hotel room anymore and prefer 2 bedrooms with a kitchen.

I have done both, but I really prefer offsite. I just like to spread out, like having more than one bathroom, like having a full kitchen and even like having the option to do laundry. We really enjoyed the pool this past summer as well. I hate the Disney buses, so driving to the parks is something I would do even if I stayed onsite. The best part is that we save a good amount of money and we use that to go more often;)

We used to always stay onsite, but we are a family of 5 and as the kids got older we needed more room. Also, we spend very little time in the rooms, so now we mostly do a timeshare exchange and stay at the Marriott Cypress Harbour. It's a short drive, has fantastic pools and grounds and we can stay an entire week for a grand total of $139!

It really doesn't make sense for us to stay on property anymore.

Wow!!! If I could stay for $139 I wouldn't EVER stay onsite either :).

I am an on site girl. We have stayed off site. We have even stayed off site in a brand new condo, with 3 bedrooms, plasma TVs, granite counter tops in kitchen, all for $150.00 for 7 days. WE have a friend in the business. I don't care about a kitchen, I refuse to do anything in a kitchen on vacation, I do that at home all year long. I also don't like time shares because I love that they come in everyday and clean and make the beds, I do that all year long at home too.

Even with all of that, I still am an on site girl. I really don't feel all the Disney magic when I stay off site. In fact, I pretty much refuse to stay anywhere but on site. I have relatives that won't, that is ok, everyone is different. But give me on site, or I won't go.

Didn't you pay for the timeshare and don't you pay yearly maintenance fees?

It is far more than $139 if you did.

We have stayed both on-site and off-site and we agree that off-site is the choice for us. First, I don't like Disney buses and I hate standing in line waiting for one of them at the end of a hectic day in the parks. So even when we stayed on-site we got to the point where we would just drive on our own anyway. I like going to my vehicle and driving back to the condo when I want to. I like the kitchen, the washer and dryer, and the #1 reason we like off-site is that DH and I get privacy in our own bedroom every night.

I don't care to be immersed in Disney 24/7....it's definitely something I'm willing to give up for my privacy. We are adding another baby to our family in the spring so it will be a while before we go back, but, when we do, we will definitely stay off-site.
