Stay in one resort or move around?

I just found out from my partner that we're going to spend Christmas and New Years at WDW next year!!!!!!! I was wondering...should we stay at only one resort or try a few (we'll be there over a week) We travel pretty light, and don't mind moving around, but wonder if there are benefits to sticking with just one, or if there's a "try some of our resorts" packages...etc.

We tried splitting our stay between two resorts (Contemporary and Yacht Club) on our last trip and we would definitely do it again. It gave us the opportunity to experience more than one resort, and in this case we had the convenience of being in the MK area for three nights (walk to the MK entrance), and then the same convenience for EPCOT/MGM.

I always split my stay now. It is great and not a problem. I recommend at least 3 days (4 is better) at each resort you choose. For a one week trip I would only stay at two resorts but if you are there for 9-12 days I would try 3. It gives you more to anticipate on your trip...as if there isn't enough at WDW!

We love it! We usually stay at two resorts each vacation (which are usually at least 10 days long). We love to see more places and Disney moves your luggage so it is very smooth and easy to do!

Okay, we are a family of three who are going to WDW at the end of June 2004. DH and DD want to stay at the AKL and I would like to stay at the BC or YC -- we will be there 8 nights. After reading this message, I'm thinking we should do 4 nights at AKL and then 4 nights at BC or YC. Which resort should I book for the first 4 nights - AKL or YC/BC? DH & DD are animal nuts and are looking forward to seeing the Savannahs, but I am less thrilled about that -- 4 nights by me would be just fine.

Also, how much of a hassle is it to move from resort to resort? DH is disabled so all the coordination, etc., falls on my shoulders. DD will be 10 so she will be of limited assistance.

Any suggestions appreciated

I know almost everyone recommends staying at the nicest resort last but in your case both are nice. Staying at the AKL will mean spending more time on your balcony watching the animals and exploring your resort. Will you be more apt to do this at the beginning or end of your trip? Disney will move you luggage for you. Just tell bell services that morning you are checking out of the Y&B Club or AKL that you are moving to the Y&B Club or AKL. They will move everything. When you check in at the new place call bell services and they will bring up your luggage.

If you travel light, sounds like it would be no problem and FUN! I just don't like moving and staying put is for us!

I would highly recommend staying at onsite resorts since you are going at the busiest time of the year. Transportation from off-site is unbearable. I would say stay at an MK resort 1/2 your trip and an Epcot resort the other half. I would pick the Grand Floridian and the Boardwalk or Yacht Club, if money was no object. Polynesian is nice, too, and the Swan/Dolphin has great discount rates. Swan/Dolphin are not Disney owned, but the location is right there in Epcot, and they are deluxe resorts.

Also you can have the hotel move your luggage from one Disney resort to another (including the Swan/Dolphin).

If you travel light and don't mind moving and are staying long enough which sounds like yes to all three, I'd do it. We don't travel light, it took two bellman's carts to get us to our room at YC. We drive and have the back end of an SUV and carrier on top on the car loaded to the gills, so it really isn't an option for us.

I don't relish moving mid-vacation, but....I don't know if I want to stay at the AKL the whole 8 nights. DH and DD have their hearts set on going to the AKL -- so I'm thinking we will go their for the first 4 nights and then transfer to the YC or BC for the last 4 nights. This way they get what they want up front in the vacation and I will get what I want at the end

DD is an animal nut so I'm sure she and DH will enjoy the balcony while at the AKL (as well as the AK itself!). I personally like MGM more than EPCOT, but being within walking distance to EPCOT is inviting.

We won't mind the ride to the MK (I'm sure we will be there a couple times during the trip). We will also probably have a "down" day during the trip to relax and I'm thinking Storm Along Bay would be nice for DD.

I figure each of us will have a suitcase so the movement of luggage won't be too bad -- especially if Bell Services will take care of it. We were at WDW 5 years ago (off-site); being on-site is something we want this trip.

We switched resorts one trip to make everyone happy. I wanted Poly, DH wanted Yacht Club and DSS wanted AKL. It was fun but alot of work with packing and repacking. I just wanted to say I think it would help to mention/show your dd the next hotel like a day or two before and say, we will be staying here in 2 days etc. It helps them to get prepared without alot of vocal surprises and opinions etc. Makes the move go alot smoother. I might also add if you have disney move any of your luggage make sure you have any medical supplies or anything you need with you. (I saw you mentioned your dh was disabled). We had them move our luggage and it didnt show up for over 4 hours, got lost etc. That is another story. We had ds nebulizer machine with that and I cringe to think what could have happened, but he did have a rescue inhaler with him anyway. Just a heads up.)

I've never stayed at more than one resort per trip. In fact, I never heard about people switching around til I read these boards. I suppose if you have a longer trip and are willing to switch, then it's something to consider. Personally, I like staying at one and creating a vacation memory around the one I stay at. I like looking back and knowing that when I was 5 y/o we stayed at the Contempo, 13 y/o was Port Orleans, etc...

Friday I taped the Travel Channel's program on the BC & YC and DH and I watched it Friday night -- once he saw the Yachtman's Steakhouse he said "book it"

We're seriously thinking of NOT telling DD about the trip to WDW until she gets out of school in June -- then leading in with "well, since you were promoted to the 5th grade, let's go to WDW next week".

DD is very easy going and it won't matter to her where we stay once she knows we're going to WDW. Every year she saves her allowance money for spending money on vacation. She keeps asking me where we're going next year and I told her we don't know yet -- boy will she be surprised!

I can totally see the logic in splitting your stay between 2 or 3 resorts but despite us staying 20 nights everytime I couldn't bear the thought of packing and unpacking more than I have to, so for us it's one resort at a time, also means we have to go back more often too, if I want to do all the resorts!! lol

I am staying at the dolphin for 6 nights, and then will go to the hotel royal plaza. Will they move the luggage from the dolphin to the downtown area? I was thinking that I would have to rent a car for the day to do the switch. I was going to stay at the dolpin the entire stay, until everyon else realized I was serious about going and decided to join me. Too expensive for me to get 2 rooms there.
