Stay away from the Disney Wonder

I'm so sorry this is impacting your cruise. I will say that it sounds like this is the kind of thing that could happen on any of the ships, but it's still not ok. We've taken a few cruises on the Wonder and I really, really like that ship. We didn't have any noise issues, though. I hope the disturbance stops soon.

We had noise in our stateroom. Nothing as bad as what you're describing and my husband saw an officer walking by and told him. He asked for our room number. In a couple hours they had tracked us down and asked us if we wanted to move. We said yes. We packed up but they took care of moving everything. If guest services won't do anything maybe you should complain to someone else.

I would recommend recording the noises (both in your room and by the pool) on your phone and going in-person to speak to Guest Services. Let them know that you're on your honeymoon (congratulations BTW) and that you expect them to address your complaints. I'd even consider asking to swap rooms unless they can guarantee that the noise disturbing you in your room will stop very soon. That may mean accepting a lower deck, although I'd try to negotiate continued access to your room to use the veranda if/ when you want to (and a partial refund of course).

In my limited experience, Disney don't want their guests to be unhappy. If there are emergency works, then they may be limited options available to Disney, but I would hope that they would try to do something to make your stay more pleasant.

Good luck. We honeymooned on the Wonder in 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I'm sorry to hear that your experience is not as pleasant.

It just got a bit quieter (2.5 hours from the start), but that is likely because we are supposed to be leaving the port now and I can't imagine they are able to do crazy drilling work during that time.
So was the drilling going on while in port? I can understand that. Any necessary maintenance would typically be done while in port (fewer people onboard).

We were on the Wonder this past April. Same thing. They were welding and fixing things up in the smokestacks, elevators, and several other places onboard, and it was crazy loud. Everyone said that Nassau was a good day to stay on the ship so we did. You couldn't even sit on the deck and talk it was so loud. Pools were closed, slide closed, splash pad closed. All of the water stuff was closed until after 1:30 and it wasn't due to "code brown". There was a horrendous rotten egg smell throughout the ship for the first 24 hours, still there 2 days later but not AS bad. We even went to guest services and they basically just shrugged and said they didn't smell it which is bull since little kids were walking around plugging their noses. We have ZERO desire to ever go on the Wonder again. We have been on both the Dream and Fantasy and never experienced any of those things.

I have noticed them "working" on the ships pretty much whenever we were docked. Luckily we were not disturbed. But our last cruise was 2016 on the Dream and they were doing things on both the Nassau and the CC days.

Do not have anything more to add but just wanted to say congrats on your wedding! Hope the weather and your time in ports are great :)

So sorry to hear this - and the OP complaints. We were considering the Wonder as our next Disney ship. Everyone may have different experiences on the same ship. We had an aft balcony (deck 5) on the Fantasy last month and the vibration was so bad but worse was the non-stop VERY loud noise - to the point where it kept waking us up all night. There also was a sewage smell coming from the bathroom, which they were not able to fix the entire cruise. Not so fun.

I have to agree with @PrincessShmoo, if it's while innoort I completely understand why it's going on. With that said though, if it was scheduled maintenance they should have left letters in the stateroom the night before. If it was an emergency fix, they should at least make an announcement and guest services should be fully aware of the situation so they can inform the guests of what is going on. Proper communication makes all the difference in the world.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your honeymoon.

I agree that 40 minutes is pretty short but this isn't the kind of thing that can just be noted for later if its that bad. Did they at least tell you what it is for..? Or how long it will continue?

My point was OP is (already) telling people to stay away from the Wonder before DCL had the chance to come back with (possibly) a resolution. I'm not saying the complaint isn't valid. I'm saying it's not fair to give a bad review before you receive an answer.

Wife and I were on Wonder for Alaska cruise in June. We didn't have any noise issues, however, smoking was huge. Our stateroom, 8004, adjoined daughter's 8002 and the smoking area is on deck 9 above and slightly forward. While we are moving it is not a problem, but during our glacier day, while we are almost dead in the water, the smoke came down onto our verandah, our daughter's and our neighbor's in 8006. We complained to guest services and they somewhat roped off the railing up there but still the chairs and tables (with ashtrays) were used. Just before we were ready to leave, I smelled smoke again and looked up and several crew members were leaning over the railing, inside the ropes, smoking away...yikes! Called GS again. Next day we got a gift from DCL which is nice but is just a Band-Aid. Why they don't move all smokers to the rear of the ship or in the engine room is beyond me.

Well, the engine room would be no bueno for the entire ship...

Trust me, I am a non-smoker who hates the smell, so I get it. But that is also why I do my due diligence and look up where the smoking sections are on a ship and book my cabin accordingly (as in not right under or over them) - I would never book the area under the top deck smoking zones on a ship. If I don't do my own research (or do but choose to book it anyway knowing that it's a smoking area), I would never think to complain about people smoking in their designated zone. I'm honestly surprised they roped off the area since it IS a designated smoking zone. If that wasn't the designated smoking area, that would be one thing - but it WAS the designated smoking area.

You are right, we did not check in advance. However, I hope my comments are a warning to others. I still can't understand what DCL was thinking in putting those areas anywhere near the front of the ship.

This boat is a construction zone. We're here on our honeymoon and while we're having fun with the ports and such, this boat is a disaster. There is construction and construction noise all day at the "Quiet Cove" adult pool. So naturally I head to my pricey verandah to get some peace and quiet. There is also construction a couple decks down so my entire stateroom sounds like it's part of a construction zone. Forget about a nice midday nap.

Save your money.
How long should we stay away? Our cruise is in December and we are PIF. Should I cancel and get some of my money back? Please advise!!!

Maybe you can ask to move room in order to avoid the section OP is talking about.

OP stated "the boat is a construction zone" and to "Stat away from the Wonder". I'm not sure moving rooms will help!

Based on OP's first comment, it seems to be happening in the Quiet Cove (" the area on the opposite side of the pool from signals"). It's not "everywhere on the ship".

Why don't you call Disney Cruise Line to inquire about that? Also, I highly doubt it wouldn't be done by December.

P.s. I've always seen people working during our cruises...

If I changed rooms to avoid the section OP complained about, chances are the construction would be finished before I boarded, and my new room would be in the next construction area.

There's always someone drilling, painting, replacing something somewhere on the cruiseship. I've seen and heard work being done during every sailing. If it wasn't near our cabin, it was near the Quiet Cove, or on a deck... The ships are being used pretty much 24/7, 365 days/year. So there is always something broken/always something to fix.
