Stay and Scream/House Quality Tip

Here's a little Stay and Scream tip we noticed over the past few weeks. Most people break butt to be first in line for whatever house opens first in their holding pen. We did that a couple of times and had lousy run throughs. There seemed to be scareactors missing or just plain not ready. Now we hold back and let a big bunch of people get in front of us; used that strategy yesterday and had a MUCH better run through. You still don't really wait much and the scareactors are in place and "warmed up."

One time at Howl-O-Scream, they let us out after Fright Feast into completely empty houses. One time, we lost our way inside a house.. and no lie.. ended up in the employee break room. The scareactors were sitting around a table drinking coffee!

I've done something similar. Ending up in a scareactor's boo hole is quite awkward. Most of the time, they simply point you in the right direction. If you're unlucky, they cook you for dinner.

I haven't been to HHN so far this year but another problem with the early open houses is if it's a house that's not totally enclosed and the sun is still out the houses will not be totally dark inside making them quite lame.I remember I think in 2007 the Friday the 13th house was just like that when we did it early then we did it later at night and was a totally different experience.Are the houses that open early this year totally enclosed like in the soundstages,I'll be there next week and would like to know.

This year it's The Orfanage that's in the Jaws queue so if you go through it early, it's not only light inside it can be very warm. ZombieGeddon in the Disaster queue is the same way. Wait and do those after dark. All other houses are OK when it's light outside.

Problem with waiting till later for the Orfanage (and whatever house is in the Jaws queue any year) is that it gets insane lines as soon as Bill & Ted starts letting out. Even the Express has been terrible after dark many days this year. Oh well, I'm a big fan of that house anyway, in the light or dark. I miss Saw, which was good anytime.

I did Orfanage while it was light outside which did ruin it somewhat. BUT, when I went through it was just a friend and myself. We received some great scares just because we were the only ones in the house. A plus for going early, though I would have liked to also been able to do it at night.
