Stateroom Security

Speaking of staterooms hosts/stewards having access to your rooms, how often do they come in daily and at what times? Do they ever come in while anyone's there?

Just wondering... don't want there to be any "surprises" while we're taking a nap or something! ;)

You can lock your stateroom door and then the steward won't be able to come in while you are in the room. We only saw our room steward in the hall never in our room. He had an great since of timing and seemed to know each time we left and would straighten up the room in the morning, refill our ice in the afternoon and then turn down the bed and straighten again in the evenening while we were at dinner.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood this from your post, but ffrom what you said, does this mean that whenever we leave our rooms, we are NOT supposed to lock it so the stewards can get in? And ONLY lock it when we are inside?

Also, how many rooms does each steward look after on each cruise? Since you see them in the hallways all the time, does this mean it's more personalized service, hence, less rooms to take care of?

The door locks behind you when you leave so you don't have to worry about locking it. The room stewards have access keys. Then when you are inside there is a lock that you can lock so that the room stewards cannot use their access keys. I am not sure how many rooms each steward is in charge of. We would see him in the halls during the morning until around noon and then we would see him again in the evening starting around 4pm. So maybe they get a little break in the afternoon? Also if we needed more ice we would call guest services if we couldn't find our room steward and he would magically appear with ice.

One other note after we would call for ice someone from Guest Services would call us to make sure we got the ice and also when we would order room service someone would call to make sure we had gotten our food and wanted to know if it was all ok and if we had gotten what we had ordered. I was very impressed with this followup service.

to Grumbo and all the other "huh" sayers...
3 laptops: my one work laptop and DH's two (he has one to use, one as backup)....it's his company and he has to be online 24/7/365....of course, on the ship he can only go in through the ship's computers, but when we're in WDW and visiting back home, he needs his computers....we come in from overseas for several weeks when we go on vacation....he also has everything backed onto CD so that if disaster strikes, he could buy a new computer and just load everything up....

correction - i just asked DH and he said he's only taking one laptop this trip (he's retiring his backup).....he's set up with some internet stuff that he can get into from my laptop in an emergency (or from any other computer)....plus with the backup CDs he can always buy a new one if he absolutely has to (though he prefers buying HW/SW locally, not in the US)...

i also need to be available for work pretty much 24 / 7 , even though it's not my company and i'm just your basic slave labor....that's just the way it works where i'm employed...so i have to drag along the company laptop (and a company cellphone)....

FLGalInTN -- the company i work for puts out periodic warnings to all employees to be especially careful in airports and particularly at airport security checkpoints.....quite a few company laptops (and other valuables) have been stolen at that point....watch your stuff like a hawk when they put it through scanning (make sure you put it through just before you walk through, so that you're out the other side at the same time your stuff comes out)....and if you're pulled aside for a special search, make them bring your stuff to where you can see it......

Beth if you feel it is necessary to bring three thats your "baggage" literally :)
Some people need to keep in contact with business. A laptop is great but on a ship is useless for communication. To do work fine. But three? Do you network them onboard? ;)
Whatever turns your crank :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Grumbo --

we're traveling for 3 weeks, of which the 4 day cruise is only a small part.....and yes, both of us always have to work while we're on vacation......

worse than the 2 laptops (not 3 as i thought earlier) is the full suitcase of gifts we will have to drag all through WDW and the cruise with us, until we finally get to the last part of trip to the states, our home visit, where we will be able to rid ourselves of all that baggage....
