Stateroom Outlets - Calling All Fellow Digital Junkies

I have to admit it.

My name is Lillian and I am addicted to digital electronics.

I can't imagine not taking all my digital gadgets with me. What do I need to pack to charge my items. Will an extension cord do or will I need a power strip.

This is the list:

1) Laptop
2) Digital Camera
3) Digital Camcorder
4) Pocket PC
5) Cell Phone

Please do not say......just leave everything at home. I cannot do that.....I am addicted remember! I have a nice electronics travel bookbag I specifically purchase so I can take all of this with me as a carry-on.

I know there are other digital junkies out there. How do you hook up all your gadgets in your stateroom? I have booked a navigator verandah for 7 night cruise.

I took a 6 outlet power strip with me last August and it worked out great. I plugged mine in by the desk in our cabin. I seemed to have something plugged into almost at any given time.

The biggest problem you'll have is the *position* of the outlets at the desk- they're at a funny angle really close to the desktop, and I can't fit my camera's battery charger or my cell phone charger into them.

I second Andy's recommendation- I use a power strip, and it solves the problem!

First, my assumption is that you are talking about needing USA style outlets for 110V. These are the outlets with the two parallel pins about 1/4" wide.

There are two such outlets on the wall at the desk. They would accept standard plugs, but would likely have problems with power supply units as one would cover more than one outlet.

There is also a USA style outlet behind the TV with two spaces to plug in. The TV plugs into one. You could use the other for a small charger, or perhaps even unplug the tv and use both.

The outlets for the lights on the nightstands behind the bed are not USA style outlets. If you bring the right style outlet converter, you could probably plug in a laptop power supply, as long as your supply could accept the 240v power.

I just brought a powerstrip and plugged it into the desk outlet.

Someone here just said that the outlets near the beds were not the standard US outlets....so that poses a question for me. My DH uses a CPAF machine at night....sleep apnea...and has to plug it in next to the bed. Will we need to bring some sort of adapter, or can a cabin steward bring us something?
I hadn't even thought about this one until I saw this thread. Yikes!

My husband has sleep apnea as well and he had his CPAP with him. His had just enough cord length to plug it into the desk outlet. An extension cord might be a good idea to bring just to be on the safe side since it will not take up much space to pack. There isn't a plug by the bed that you will be able to use. So glad that he was able to use it since he sleeps terrible without it.

As for the digital junkie We brought our digital camera, cell phone (couldn't use it since there wasn't a signal most of the time), camcorder, laptop, etc...I wouldn't have used a power strip because the outlets they had in the room were sufficient. I used my laptop on the verandah a few times, but for that I ran off of battery power. I charged the cameras overnight so I never needed to charge them during the day.

THis is somewhat offtopic but... Lillian mentioned a pocket PC.

I'm in university right now, and I find that I do not have enough time in between classes to use my laptop during lecture (power down, pack up etc) and was thinking of maybe getting a pocket PC.

I have a compaq laptop (if that makes any difference) and I was wondering if someone could give me some suggestions for a good pocket PC.

I will be using it for
*note taking during lectures
*appointments, homework etc
*hopefuly some games (all work and no play... )

and if it has enough power, I would like to be able to bring it with me on our cruise, so that i can download our pictures and free up space on the digital camera memory.
