Stateroom host Duties

We never went back to the 'servers' area after the first night so they received their $36 for one night of ... service

Actually, the tips cover more than just the MDR dinner service each evening. Your servers may work the MDRs, buffet or quick service locations during the day when there are no tips. DCL has gratuities arranged such that while you are tipping just your assigned MDR service team, it covers all meals. So, no, your servers did not receive a $36 tip for one night, it covered all (or at least most) meals your entire cruise.

Enjoy your cruise!

Well I thought I had posted exactly that but I will expand more then.

On one cruise, ( and I have posted this before here and more confirmed it has happened to them). I paid my tips and the names on them were checked.

Often your servers have short nicknames so its good to understand their full names, so I had them written down.

The ticket for my head server was incorrect, the name was completely wrong.

I checked guest services they said its OK, if you just hand your ticket over to the correct person they will get it and bank it, I asked them but what would occur if I didn't hand it over? So GS said we will change them for you. I asked the head server that night about it, he said that DCL had not updated their files for him correctly, the name quoted was a prior head servier on the previous cruise. He said well done for changing it, it is an issue, if people do not hand the tickets over the wrong servers get the tip.

There so it happened to me. People can ignore it if they want but if you do not hand your tickets over mistakes can occur that is the safety net.

This is very interesting. So we will note peoples names, as we plan to attend the dinners due to the tipping. I hope their real names are on their tags. Back when my daughter worked at Disney (the parks) they use to routinely change their name tags to see if people noticed. :)

Actually not. While the gratuities are given to the "dinner servers" those same servers are the people who work in the buffets and quick serve locations the rest of the day. Gratuities are for all meal service, not just dinner.

This is good to know. Do they post this info on the cruise site and I just missed it the first time?

I know what you mean, there was a TV news station the lady presenter changed her outfit each day and was noticed straight away if it was repeated, the male presenter wore the same suit shirt and tie for a year and no one noticed.

Back to the tickets, they make mistakes it occurs more often than people think, not checking them not handing them over removes any safety net.

They really should post the tips are not just for the sit down dinners. Our next cruise we booked a large veranda and really wanted to do room service. So now I feel that I can do this and all the 'server' tips will go towards these people - I just need to know their names - right ?? :)

Typically the room service workers are NOT the same as your dinner servers. Your dinner servers will be working the sit down breakfasts and lunches, the buffet, and the dining areas on Castaway Cay. I guess that's why it's not "published" because you DO see them outside of dinner.

You should be prepared to tip whoever delivers your room service separately.

You can do that but you are missing a lot and the room service menu is not extensive its for snacks and quite boring really the MDRs like Animators have good shows part of the cruise, a snack on the verandah is great but not an evening meal imho.

Good to know! We were told not to tip room service by other cruisers but we really should because this would be good to know. DH really wants to use the veranda.

Ok, so we're back in the dinning room.

I am cutting and pasting all of this into a word document for reference. :) so keep the tips flowing :)

It is customary to tip room service but up to you. MDRs are best as you can see from the limited room service menu ok for a snack not for dinner.

All of the room service info is correct, unless, you are staying in a category T or higher. With the concierge suites, you are able to have MDR dinner in your stateroom. This was handled for us by the concierge staff in the lounge. It is also nice to enjoy hot breakfast on your verandah.

Yes I have stayed in a Cat T I do not think the person who was asking is concierge and didn't want to confuse further.

It's selected MDR food at some set times for dinner, and hot breakfast for limited hours.
royals and Cat S get to choose from Palo dinner as well.

Hot breakfast is replaced with standard breakfast on disembarkation day.

@PrincessShmoo you may want to edit your picture as your party name is still visible at the bottom of the image in the conservation area.

No need to say thanks I guess?
That and it is still visible in the attached file.....

If you want to use your veranda, our favorite thing to do is have coffee/tea and muffins delivered early, and sit on the veranda as the sun rises. Second favorite is to have a late night snack delivered, or bring back an extra dessert from the MDR (yes, they will pack one up for you) and enjoy it on the veranda with an adult beverage.

I always tip & don't have a dog in this fight, but if you really believe the bolded, then you are not up-to-date on the modern educational system.

I do know that. It is why is I believe it's wasn't purely "helping" a student but also helping herself/himself. My friend got enough "promotion in doubt" letters for her child because the teachers need to cover her/his xxx. There are enough teachers in my family to know both side of the story. Thank goodness none of them have tipping theory like this.

Sorry we seem to be getting a bit off track here but I wanted to add this...
We used our verandah extensively - watched the sunset many nights as well as morning and afternoon breaks from people - and never ate on it. It was our place of peace and solitude - just us and the ocean. Eating out there would have been problematic as there is a small table that can hold your drinks but that is about all.

Until this trip, I never understood why anyone would spend time in their room during a cruise (I've also sailed twice on Carnival in inside staterooms due to trying to minimize the chance of motion sickness) but after this cruise last week, I am happily in the verandah camp. I loved being able to just come and put on my fuzzy robe and just sit and watch the water go by.

That said, I'm the wife of a CM so I get plenty of Mickey time. We went to every MDR and I thoroughly enjoyed them (well, except the first night in Cariocoa's but that was the menu - not the location). I admit I even teared up during the first night in Animator's Palate when the "show" happened at the end.
