Stateroom changes?

We are traveling with another family and selected two connecting verandah staterooms. This is very important to us, as we all have small children and will want to have one adult trade off watching them at night while the other adults travel about the ship, see shows, etc.

Is there a way to make sure our room doesn't get changed on us? Does that happen?

You can have the request "Do not change rooms" added to your reservation. Are your reservations linked? That often alerts DCL to multiple reservations that are together.

That said, it's still possible that a room can be changed, if there were issues with the room, or it was needed for some special purpose.

It's possible but extremely unlikely.

I've been on over 20 DCL cruises. Some of them with multiple family members in different cabins but not necessarily close to each other. None of us have ever gotten moved to another cabin or upgraded. It is very rare.

Many have reported since the restart that they were "graciously" upgraded out of inside and oceanview staterooms to balcony staterooms. DCL has not published a policy on that trend, but it seems that, because of the limited-capacity sailings, they prefer to have guests spread across a limited number of decks.

As capacity comes back to normal, the risk to be upgraded will diminish but it is much more common since the restart.

I was booked on deck 6 or deck 7 and got moved twice. Same room (oceanview balcony) but we specifically chose a non-connecting stateroom and got moved twice to connecting staterooms. This was back in November 2021.

There are no verandahs on decks 1 or 2, which is what the OP asked about.

Also, on the current cruises (not talking about fall, which was 6 months ago and when things were just reopening), there has been very little movement.

Well no, I know there are no verandahs on 2. Obviously. That's why I said "especially if you booked on decks 1 or 2." But I guess I should have been more specific and said something like "especially for those folks who booked on decks 1 or 2, of which you are not, but this info could be helpful for others stumbling across this thread."

However, my point still stands that there still has been quite a bit more movement of late than there used to be in the beforetimes as they balance life boats and stateroom host load. I still maintain that "extremely unlikely" doesn't really fit the ongoing situation. I would say, "not likely, but definitely not outside the realm of possibility, but it helps that it's a verandah."

For what it’s worth, we were moved from connecting verandas on Deck 5 of the Fantasy in November.
