State tax question

We are filing federal taxes through Turbo Tax but they want $40ish per state return and we have to do 2 states since DH did some side work for a company in a different state. I know we can do PAs for free on their website. Is there any reason to do the state returns through Turbo Tax or can I go with someplace offering free?

We use Turbo Tax and for the state ones we just print them out and mail them in instead of filing online. A stamp is cheaper then e-filing.

I use TurboTax for my federal, then print out the forms from TurboTax and use them to file using the PA state website's free version. I've done this with a 1040EZ (this year) and more complicated returns with several W-2, 1099-INT, K-1, etc forms. I believe you have to file in both states, but if it was an adjoining state to PA, check for tax reciprocity. :goodvibes

Same here. We buy the Turbo Tax that covers the states and use it to fill out Fed and State. Then we e-file Fed and mail in the state.

Check the IRS site for free file options. I know not everyone is able to e-file their federal and tax returns for free - but I was lucky enough to be able to.
