I teach the 2nd grade and recently taught my class the 50 Nifty song to learn their state names. I told them anyone who could learn it and sing it for the class independently would win a prize. I'm proud to say 12 out of 25 were able to do it. In the past I've bought the coin collection holders at the $ store. This year I'n unable to find them. Has anyone seen these recently anywhere? I looked online and they're $5 each. I can't spend $60 on my class right now with the holidays coming up.
If not, any other ideas on "state" related prizes at around a dollar or two each?

BookShop4u website has them for $1.96 each. Still double what you've paid before plus $3.99 shipping but still less than $5 each.

Eta: wait that's an outdated one.... Nevermind.
Have you tried looking at michaels?

Have you tried Dollar Tree?? They always have stuff like that. I'm pretty sure I've seen the folders there within the past few months because I mentioned it to someone.

I haven't seen them, but had to laugh at the "50 Nifty" reference. I learned that back in 5th grade and still can remember all the states in alphabetical order thanks to that song!

More than 30 years ago I learned this song. I don't know it's name. It was highly effective.

"When I was small I studied U. S. geography.
The teacher said would you stand up and list the states for me?
My knees began a-knockin, my words fell out all wrong;
Then suddenly I burst out with this silly little song.
doot doot, doot doot, doot doot, doot,
do-doot, doot doot, doot,
Alabama and Alaska Arizona, Arkansas,
California, Colorado and Connecticut and more,
Delaware, Flor’da, Georgia, then Hawaii, Idaho,
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa still thirty-five to go,
Kansas and Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, and good old Michigan,
Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri and Montana,
Then Nebraska’s twenty-seven, number twenty-eight’s Nevada,
ooooooo 0000000
Next New Hampshire and New Jersey, and way down New Mexico,
There’s New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio,
Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, now let’s see,
Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee,
Texas, and there’s Utah, Vermont, I’m almost through!
Virginia, then there’s Washington and West Virginia, too.
Could Wisconsin be the last one or is it forty-nine?
No, Wyoming is the last state, in the fifty states that rhyme.
When I sat down all out of breath
The teacher said,” That’s great! I’m quite impressed;
You were the best at listing all the states
But if you wanna get an ‘A’ for that silly little rhyme
Stand back up and sing that song
But do it double time!"

Just an FYI as an alternative to the nifty 50

I can't help on where to find the books, but I must say, I learned that song in 3rd grade and STILL remember the 50 states too because of it.

Thanks for your teaching our children. Don't really have any ideas for you, sorry.
