Hi to all

Tomorrow is my 26th wedding anniversary and I thought what a great time to do something about my health. So I will be starting WW online.

Now here is the problem and I need your help. My husband and I are not celebrating anniversary tomorrow night so I am going out with my girlfriends (one celebrating her birthday). The birthday girl has chosen a tapas restaurant......YIKES

How am I suppose to figure out points on all those small portions? I figured she would pick a regular restaurant and I could order fish.

Any suggestions (no I cannot ask her to change restaurants - it is her birthday)

Or do I just eat small portions (one of my issues in life) and do the best I can during the day.

Frazzled!!

Thanks

Hi :wave2: I too, just started WW online and my suggestion is to officially start the next day so you don't have to worry about trying to figure out the points or we do get 35 flex points a week. You can use a few, use the whole thing or use none. Up to you.

Don't know if that helped any or not :daisy:

I agree with MM as well. Can you start the next day?

If not, try tackling your first day with the biggest challenge we all face eventually....eating out.

First, if you can, see if the restaurant has an online menu. If so, you can plan in advance. No matter where you eat, portion control is gonna come into play. Also, dottie's website http://www.dwlz.com/WWinfoTOC.html has GREAT info on MANY restaurants, and you could guestimate as best you can. And, you'd be surprised at how many restaurants the online WW site has as well.

Again, when all else fails, you DO have 35 flex points for the week. It might be hard using most or all of them on your first day, but if don't use anymore this week, you'll still be OP!

Best wishes for success!! :cheer2:

Happy Anniversary!! :)

Maybe you can try speaking with the server, letting them know you have just started WW, and asking them to recommend a dish? Or could you just ask for half a portion of each dish? If not, just split whatever they bring you in half and eat that.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

One of the things you're going to learn with Weight Watchers is that it works in real life situations.

There is NO good time to lose weight.

It all starts in November, when you hit open season on Food. You get Thanksgiving, and then the holiday food starts after Christmas with all the parties and it lasts right through until New Year's! Throw in all the weekend summer parties, birthday parties, winter parties for things like the superbowl - weddings, birthdays, any other celebration....

There will ALWAYS be something that you think will "impede" your weight loss. It might slow it down - but those situations are NEVER going to go away. They will ALWAYS be there. And unless you learn to deal with them while staying on program, you're dooming yourself to failure.

My advice is to go for Tapas. Start out the day by counting your points. Eat a light breakfast and lunch. Include lots of vegetables and a few fruits. Before you leave - eat a couple of ounces of chicken, or a hard boiled egg - something with protein. It will make you feel a little fuller, so you won't eat as much at the restaurant.

Then, try a few of the Tapas. Will you know exactly what the points are? Absolutely not. But you can guesstimate. Whatever you eat, think of a similar food, and look it up in WW online.

Even if your points are totally wrong - you've still CONTROLLED what went into your mouth, and how much you ate.

You CAN do this. There really is no better time than the present. We're all here to help you and support you.

You can do it.

You can do it.

That is wonderful advice.

Ask your server questions. I asked a server something once, and she GLADLY went to the kitchen and asked. I told her she didn't have to, but she did anyway.

They're usually willing to help if you just ask. :)

Does the restaurant have a menu online?

A lot of times I'll try to see a menu (or atleast a menu from a similar restaurant) before going to the restaurant so I can pick the items with better point values. Sure there are probably no 0-2 point items but I always try to pick the lesser of 2 evils.
