Starting to get worried about the hurricanes in October???

Our trip is oct 23rd to oct 30th. I know many of you will be there in the next few weeks as well. Should I be concerned about more hurricanes?I dont know what I would do if our vacation was ruined because of the weather. My heart goes out to the people who live there and the people who were vacationing during the last few hurricanes.

Who watches the weather? Are they calling for anymore bad storms?

Well Jeanne was not originally suppose to come to FL. But she ended up being the worse of the three we had. And all were plenty bad.
That being said -- Come on Down!
Who is to say what can happen anywhere anyone goes on vacation?
Worse case, and God forbid we have ANOTHER one , no one will take better care of you than Disney.
But personally, would I plan a WDW vacation during hurricane seasons of the future? No!

We wil never know. Hurricane Charley was originally supposed to hit Tampa as a three, where I live, but it ended up hitting Punta Gorda as a four. Then Frances hit us, and Ivan was supposed to come close to Tampa, but missed it by far. And now Jeanne, which wasn't supposed to hit Florida at all, hit Tampa Bay also, which my neighboorhood is still cleaning up from.

Hurricanes are unpredictable, so we can't help you with this question.

Currently Tropical Storm Lisa is heading North in the Atlantic at 6mph. Which is definately no threat to Florida with only 50mph winds.

If you are on-site in a Disney resort, they do reruns of good movies in your room. If you are staying in a deluxe resort, like Contemporary, they provide lots of entertainment.

We just returned from WDW. We arrived last thursday and just got home today. We were there during hurricane Jeanne. We stayed at the GF and I can honestly say we had the best WDW vacation we ever had (we go at least 1X sometimes 2X per year). First of all disney does not lose electricity, and the hotels are built beyone hurricane standards. Secondly, no body does a hurricane like Disney....seriously. We were informed by telephone messages exactly what was going on and what to do. We were in the main building concierge, so we were lucky as there was a time that you could not leave your room...so we had the main building to walk around in and have a lounge to visit. They served food and beverages at all times, but other guests that were not concierge level were instructed to buy snacks for the following day. The night before the hurricane the hotel had cinderella and prince charming in the lobby for about 3 hours....then followed by pooh, tigger, piglet and eyeore. The band played, there was a magician, games, and everyone danced, laughed and had a great time. It was one big hurricane party in the GF lobby. Since Disney was "closed" there was no transportation and you were instructed not to leave the hotel grounds. For instance, If you were staying at the GF, you could not go to the California grill for dinner. What they did was they turned Citricos into bufffet dining. Many of the hotel employees stayed for 2 days in the hotel so the guests would be as comfortable as possible. Everyone did an outstanding job, from the housekeeping staff to the restaurant manager...

The day after the hurricane, it was just beautiful...and you would never know that a hurricane blew thru. The parks and hotel were clean, beauitful and up and running at 9am. We were told that Disney hads a huge staff that actually sleeps underground and the moment NOAA gives the alls clear they get to work cleaning the park for the next day.

As far as park tickets....you get comped a one day park ticket.

We had so much fun that instead of checking out early (as many people did) we added a day and glad we did.

We travel often and we go to lots of different places...I can honestly say Disney never fails to amaze us...If they can make a hurricane fun they can do anything! The staff went out of their way to make you feel safe, comfortable and always entertained.

After experiencing Disney thru a hurricane, I can honestly tell you not to worry about it...you will have a great time no matter what.

Thanks for the positive feedback!I was so excited I just told my Mom what you said! Im not as worried anymore..Im not saying i want to be there during a hurricane but if it happens at least i know Dsiney will make it fun for everyone!

Seriously -- if you are in FL during a hurricane, Disney is the place to be.
Many start booking rooms there right away at the first sign of one. And if we get another I am sure the rooms will be booked FAST!

Hurricane or not as long as Im on WDW property Im all set. Hell if there is one while Im there it gives me just another excuse to throw back cold ones and have A party. Glad to see you people think positive.

I will be there from the 20-27 and I booked thinking hurricane season would be over at the end of september....wrong! My only concern is that our flight may be delayed. We are both going so late in the month that we should be fine.

I know that every year is different, but last year we went that week. The weather was beautiful. Weve gone at all different times of the year, and I have to say that October was the best. We wore shorts and tshirts everyday. It sprinkled a little one day, and the next day it rained a little, but we went to Epcot. The next day the sun was shining again. Every day it was in the 80s and it might have hit 90 a couple of days. Have a great time!

DH and I have been several times in hurricane season and by far have had great weather - we almost always go in Oct. We'll be there a week from now and cannot wait!! If we happen to get any bad weather, we will handle it but unless the airports are closed, we'll be there.

Twelve days to go for us and it is of some concern but not much.

While nothing has been 'usual' this year, if the number of hurricanes during the season are shown in a graph, September is a hugh spike and then drops dramtically after end of Sept. Saw that on some weather web site.

Also, it's more usual that a hurricane somewhere doesn't effect Disney much besides some rain and a little wind. We where down there last labor day and that week, there was a hurricane that came in from the gulf side. Predictions were for a lot of rain but we hardly saw any that week.

So we're going, but will be a bit more aware of what is going on and will be ready to stock up on things for the room if need be.
