starting a very very different proud mom or dad thread

My ds's empathy and sensitive nature.:) My dd's eagerness to learn and to share what she has learned.:)

DS is 23. About a year ago a gentleman I knew said that he was very impressed with my son. That a funeral possession was going by. Now I live in a rural area where traffic usually stops for funeral possessions. Well not only had DS stopped they said he removed his cap and bowed his head as they went by. Kind of made me feel good all over. The man who told me was in the possession but said that the lady whose husband had died was especially touched by this.

These are really sweet stories to read :)

but I want to share an experience we had last week at WDW

On Monday, our first full day in the park, we were walking to LTT for dinner, my DS (6) stepped onto the walkway from Main STreet to Frontierland and looked down and found a $100 bill. We asked him what he thought he should do....and he said, "we need to turn it into someone" Sooooo..when we arrived at LTT, my son gave it to the hostess, who could have cared less...she took the dollar and said to him "uh...okay, thanks..." ( I really wonder where it went...but that is another story) We were proud that we've taught our children to do the right thing and that he did it without hesitation
Fast forward to Saturday....we spent the evening at DTD and the boys spent all of their money in the Lego store. From Lego, we had dinner at McDonalds, wandered around World of Disney, and we went to OUAT store and built a "Ta-to Head" for Boo....my youngest DS had given my oldest (10) DS the bags to hold. After leaving OUAT the kids playing in the water, and we got on a bus back to the Polynesian. When we returned to the Polynesian, my DH looked at DS(10) and said "where is your bag?" DS turned several shades of white, and said he had no idea.
We went back to our room and looked at the digital pics from DTD and determined that my DS did not have the bag when they were playing in the water. Soooooo...Mom starts calling...I called everywhere....DTD lost & found, each store we were in...everywhere....
There was about $70 worth of brand new legos in the bag. We figured they were gone forever....well, DS(6) kept saying..."they're going to turn up....someone will do the right thing"
About 10:30 that night, a CM from OUAT called us and said they found our bag...GREAT...except we were leaving at 7:00 the next mornign and couldn't get it before we left. Well....Nancy, the MOD brought the bag to us when she got out of work at midnight.
To see my DS eyes the next morning, when we told him what had happened...and to reaffirm his belief that doing the right thing will result in someone doing the right thing for you someday.....it was just a great feeling..

Like I said...not exactly the same type of experience...but a story that I thought went well here.

This is a small thing but it sticks in my mind because it happened yesterday....
DS6 has been drawing and coloring a lot lately, more than ever before. He was proudly showing a drawing to his father yesterday and he said "Daddy, I like to draw because it makes me feel good inside".:D
I love that he has found something that makes him feel that good!:D

My 17 year old son was following me home late one afternoon, and as we got off the expressway, he did a U-turn and pulled his truck off the road near a car with flashers on. I knew he was in a hurry to meet friends at our house, and when he finally arrived, I asked him who the folks in the car were, and he just shrugged and said he didn't know. He does this kind of stuff all the time. He goes on ride-alongs with the city police every chance he gets. Last Friday night while his classmates were partying, he was helping load stretchers into an ambulance after an accident on the interstate. He will study criminal justice in college next year.

My daughter is 14 and is having to face the fact that a lot of her classmates are starting to drink and more. She has decided that she will just have to be one of the " totally uncool kids". If only she knew how much she is and will be respected because of that! She is the only freshman on our varsity basketball team and made it through hard work in spite of the girls in her class telling her she wasn't good enough.

There are so many wonderful, caring young people. Makes me feel good about our future!
