Starting a charm bracelet at my age, silly?

What a coincidence! I'm 42 and have just started my very first charm bracelet! I prefer the dangling charms as opposed to the Italian ones, because the dangles are just so girly LOL!

What a bunch of Disney princesses we are!princess:

Oh gosh no ... Its great to start something like that at any age!

I love watching the animated comics on TV. Never had a chance to do that when I was a kid, so I do it now while I can. lol

well, after reading this post i went on ebay and bought about 20 italian charms- what the heck happened??

my daughter has an italian bracelet at home which she never wears and has no charms for so.......i decided to use it and put my own charms on-

i love collecting things and at .99 to $2.00 a pop on ebay for the charms, you really can't go wrong

(just sitting at work shopping:tongue: )

I want one of the mickey head starter bracelet, I think the starter was about $18 on board, does anyone know if I can get the mickey starter cheaper?

If you want a charm bracelet, go for it.

I met a lady last weekend wearing her charm bracelets as a necklace! It looked really neat. She had a length of chain that attached to both bracelets, went behind her neck and attached to the other end of the bracelets in front. The two bracelets were thus lying side-by-side not end-to-end. I think one had silver charms and the other gold, but it could be done as per personal preference.

At WDW you can buy clip on charms--not sure if they have them on the ships. They have bracelets and necklaces and lots of charms. Each charm has a "lobster claw" clasp so can be put on and taken off bracelets or necklaces as one prefers. I got a Mickey and a Minnie, removed the lobster claw and put then on pierced-ear wires and wear them almost every day.

My Italian bracelet has some charms from WDW and from a local store. My flat-Mickey-silouette links were an $18 watch band from WDW and was 14 links long. I give these Mickeys to friends so my bracelet is a friendship bracelet too. I have a basket-weave link from one friend I gave a Mickey to and some designed charms from two other friends who got Mickey links from me. $18 divided by 14 = $1.30 per souvenir.....not a bad price.

I had a mineature Christmas tree that was a special item at Hallmark. I took the Disney Characters off a charm bracelet and put them on pierced ear wires and hung them as ornaments. I plan to get a (lobster claw) Stitch and a Lilo next time I am at a Disney park to add to the tree.

Go for it! Charm bracelets are great fun no matter what your age is. ::yes:: I have one that I got when I was a teenager and I don't intend to ever stop wearing it no matter how old I get! :teeth:

Welllll...I am 42 and I have a yellow gold dangle type charm bracelet (almost completely full!) :earseek: My favorite is Tinkerbell! Then I also have two, yes two italian charm bracelets. I have many disney italian charms, in addition to other favorites. Like another DISer I read earlier, I purchased severlalon e-bay. I am always amazed at how many different ones there are. But here is one I just found (and bought) at disneydirect. Got the notice it was shipped yesterday!

Can't wait for my new addition. So don't feel bad about starting a bracelet. They are fun!
Happy Collecting! Enjoy!

Thank you everyone! I can't believe all these responses. You've convinced me, I'm going to start one. :D

To wdwdclfan, thanks for that link! I now can picture the italian ones. Thanks to everyone else that tried to describe them. I can't believe I've gotten to this age and have never noticed these bracelets on anyone before. Now I'll see them everywhere, right? :p

ok, so here's the question. I live in Ma. Do I buy the starter bracelet at a jewelry store here, before our trip, or do I wait till I get to Disney as this bracelet will probably be mostly all DW and DCL? I just showed that link to my DH, hmmmm....maybe a nice Christmas present perhaps? Does it really matter if you pay alot or little, since you are replacing the links with ones that you buy anyway? Are there better quality ones?

A new collection, yes!

My grandmother wore a charm bracelet well into her 90's-when I hear one jingling I always think of her.

That's nice. :D

I started my charm bracelet about 10 years ago and only buy charms while at WDW for it (3D) not every trip, well a few years ago my oldest niece (10) started asking if she could wear it while she was at my house, I said sure. Then she wanted to know if she could start one, which we did but in silver. I have told her that mine would be hers ONE DAY, then she wanted to know WHEN? So I explaned it too her....She was wearing it one day and my youngest niece wanted to see it, 1DN says..."It's going to be mine one day when Aunt Beckie diiiiiiiiiii." (GULP) She seemed not to know what to say then. But ran over and gave me a big HUG.

So when I wear it around her, I tell her NOT YET!!

I bought both kids a charm braclett when they were born and have added a few charms to them...but need to order more to catch up! They do have the claw charms on the ship and I picked one up for DD along with all the princess charms. :) I am holding onto it for her for another year and will give it to her on her 5th birthday. That is a great idea about using the charms for earings!!! Thanks!
