Starting 1/08 any non DVC reservation will require a $95 transfer fee

What might that be Dean? Care to elaborate!:goodvibes
Not predicting anything specific, just in general terms that timeshares change. So it's not that I know something you don't.

Dean, just curious - what are your thoughts about the suggestions from others here that DVC may be prepping to cut ties with WDW?
I think that's extremely doubtful for WDW resorts and somewhat so for the other two.

I'm sorry - the other two what?

One of the things to keep in mind here as well is that the Disney Vacation Club is owned by Disney Vacation Development... The Disney resorts at WDW are owned and operated by the Walt Disney World Company...

Sop technically, you ARE trading out to another company when you use points at the non-DVC WDW resorts...

Yet they both contribute to the same bottom line, and trade on the same stock exchange as the same company! :teeth:

Actually I think DVC has acted like many timeshare overall. I am saying that changes should be expected and I certainly have expected them over the years. That DVC has been slower to change and that there are a number of small changes close together is very indicative or the timeshare world in general. It is not doom and gloom in my eyes like it seems to be for many. I'll bet we haven't yet seen the biggest change that will happen over the next 3-5 years.

To me, that's the biggest problem. I think that they ARE going to be doing bad stuff to DVC owners in the next 3 to 5 years.

I don't like the way things are heading. If I were looking to buy today, I wouldn't likely buy DVC.

I'm putting together a letter for Jim Lewis now. I also plan to complain to member services. Not that I think they'll pay any attention to ME, but I hope that if enough folks complain, they'll think about what they are doing.

As I said, I don't think draconian changes are in order. But I guess if you're caught on the wrong end of a specific change, it could feel that way. How do you think those people felt who had bought DVC for extended Dec & Jan stays and DVC raised the points on them by 15% back in the mid 90's. Note, I'm not making any specific predictions but simply pointing out some of the kind of things that COULD happen and that I'd see as fairly routine and not a big deal in general. I KNOW that many will disagree that some of these are a big deal and that's part of my point.
  • Institute a minimum stay
  • Cut HH and VB lose at 2042 but extend the others.
  • change the 7/11 month home resort window either up or down.
  • Change banking or borrowing. Note the original POS (before there was more than 1 resort) had far more restrictions than either the "new" or "old" system we've been talking about recently.
  • Institute fees to bank, borrow, for multiple reservations.
  • Abandon any relationship with exchange companies.
  • Eliminate any or all of the cash equivilent exchanges (CC, DC, DCL).
  • institute more hard booking categories given owners a further advantage over DVC non owners for that resort.
  • Elimination of other discount and perks including the AP/PAP and free valet parking.
  • The transfer option eliminated.
I'm sure I'll think of many others.

Wow! Dean, you are a very well thought out person and organized. There are some points you listed that I agree with and others that I'm not so sure about...most likely because we've only been members for 3 years so I'm fairly clueless to the pre-SSR days policies. But, thanks to the DIS DVC family I am learning more about DVC from those who have been members for a much longer time than myself.

Thank you for the kind words. My real point is that there WILL be changes over time with some winners and some losers. One needs to buy in counting on what's guaranteed with the rest being gravy.
