I thought I read somewhere about being able to buy a "starter pack" for pin trading. My daughter is interested in getting started collecting pins on this trip, so any information on getting a few, inexpensive pins to start her off would be great!

They have pin-trading "starter packs" through out the parks. I'm pretty sure you can buy them at any shop that sells pins. I know for sure that you can buy one in that shop as soon as you enter MK on the right with all the rocking chairs on the porch (I want to say City or Town Hall, but I'm not 100% sure.). They contain a basic lanyard and about five or six pins. I believe that there are different themes. Like there's a Tinkerbell starter pack, a Mickey and friends starter pack, etc. I'm sure your daughter will love pin-trading. It's a lot of fun! Hope that helps! :earsgirl:

Thanks, that's exacly what I was hoping for! Any idea how much it costs?

there was a deluxe starter kit of "happiest place on earth 50th"
with eight pins:-
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Stitch, Chip, Dale, Goofy and Tinker Bell

RRP = $48

think there is also an 8 pin villians st for the same price - these have all 8 as different designs

the standard lanyard set is 4 pins (2 of each design) as one to keep and one to trade and i thin they RRP =$25

other wise check out ebay for small lots, but stear clear of "2000" logo pins as there are alot flooding the park and a CM cannot accept it if they already have one on their lanyard - also semesda pins are a thin cheaper spanish made pin, they can again be difficult to trade.

Hope this helps

Toni

All the starter sets are around $50. You might want to keep the cost in mind as you go in. This is nothing against pin trading - it's great and a ton of fun, but I was only halfway considering it going last time, and after looking around, every pin I wanted was $9-12. You would be better off trying to get going at home, like through ebay, and trading with CMs in the parks.

Just an opinion.

We bought 10 packages of Energizer batteries just to get the pins. One to keep, one to trade of 5 different pins. We have the coupons from Kellogg's cereal to get a free pin at DTD, a coupon for a free pin from DTD out of the Birnbaum guidebook, and a coupon for a free pin from Magical Express.

I saw a couple of "pin starter" sets at MGM in January but we weren't planning to do pins so I didn't pay that much attention. Right now we are planning to have DS9 get his free pins and trade the duplicates from the batteries, then he can buy more if he sees any that he REALLY wants.

I can see now that I might end up buying the villain set for myself. Oh, dear! :rotfl:

The starter sets I'm talking about are NOT $50. My brother bought one. I believe raksha2 was correct in saying they were around $25. They're perfect for little kids who want to get started. The $50 sets sound as if they feature special edition pins. Another way to get started is to go to your local Disney store and see if there are any pins on sale. My aunt will stock up if she sees some on sale for like $2.99 a piece. Then, we trade all of them for newer, better pins.
