I was killing myself, trying to think of something good to give our 9 year-old daughter this year. Wracking my brains and coming up with no good ideas.

I was watching tv a couple months back, one of the shows had a child with autism as a character that week. My DH mentioned how I should have someone invent a digital media storage device to take the place of the notebooks...Click.

Last year, I'd bought a couple of discontinued toys called JuiceBox. Silly little thing that played special music videos or cartoon episodes, or you could even load you own content onto them. Click.

Cleaning up today, I found the spare toy and cord. Also found a memory card for it. Click-ity-click.

The wheels in my head turned so fast, I can still smell the smoke.

I've been snapping pictures of everything Katie likes, plus a few extras like "home" with our address, and "mom's phone" with my cell phone number on it. (I have also been photoshopping text onto the pics.) Still oodles of room for more...

I am giving her the ability to tell us what she wants...which, ironically enough, is what I really want.

I am so excited about this year now! :cloud9:

So, anyone else have any stories of "the perfect gift" they'd like to share? Doesn't even have to be from this year, so as not to spoil any upcoming surprises...

That is such an awesome idea! I hope she loves it as well as the rest of your family!!!!

Sounds like a great idea!!

My perfect gift was a few years back for my now x-stepmother-inlaw (we still are very close btw)....she had mentioned this book she loved that her grandmother used to read her all the time when she was a little girl (in the early 50's....obviously out of print etc. Well, I searched my butt off and found one on the internet...think I paid 20 bucks for it and it was in pretty good shape. Just her reaction when she opened that gift....I will NEVER forget it!!!

What a wonderful idea! :)

The best gift I ever gave was one I made for my Mom. She was born in 1925 so she is 81 now. When she was younger she had to have her high school yearbook destroyed (along with other things) due to some contagious disease that was going around - can't remember what it was but it was in the 1940's.

Back in the 1980's I was working at a place where I met a woman who happened to be a couple years behind my Mom at the same high school. This woman brought in her yearbook and let me copy the entire thing. I bound the copy and gave it to my Mom. The look on her face was priceless as once again she got to see all her old friends from high school! :)

Lisa L from MI and JESW, thanks for sharing those stories! I just love giving gifts and the more suited to the receiver, the better. Sounds as though you both put a lot of thought into those. :thumbsup2

I have been having a blast taking photos. I never realized just how much food motivates Katie though. Most everything I'm taking pics of is food!
