My son has become a star wars nut. He is dying to go on star tours (he is 5 1/2-big for age (47")-will he handle it ok or is the ride too rough for a 5 year old?) Anyway, I saw there is a gift shop in MGM, but wondered if there were any darth vader, r2d2 etc sightings around that park?

He should have no problem on Star Tours, as long as he doesn't have motion sickness issues. Each person has his/her own seat and seatbelt. That's pleanty to keep you in place for ST.

As you exit the ride, there is a full Star Wars gift shop called Tattoine Traders. You actually need to walk through the gift shop to reach the park again, but you don't need to ride ST to check out the items they have for sale.

Don't forget to check out the speeder bike across from ST for a great photo opportunity.

You won't find any of the characters roaming the parks (unless you visit during Star Wars Weekends in May and June), but you should see Darth Vader and a few others featured in the afternoon parade.

Outside the ride is a huge, life size ATAT? robot that squirts water and there is an Ewok village- you can hear them inside.

Believe it or not, my two dd's are Star Wars nuts too. We spent a long time in the store after the ride........several times.
I wanted to let you know that in Disney-MGM Studios there is a store at the end of Backlot Tour that has several photos with Star War's scenes. The CM can take your son's picture and insert/add it into the picture. Then your son can be the Star Wars character in the picture. They are really neat!!!!!!!! Make sure to try it. You can give it a try for free. If you buy it the cost is $35. (I think I remember it being that.)

DS is 5 and a Star Wars maniac! He's been riding Star Tours since he was just under 3 yrs old (He's tall for his age) We're going down tommorrow (YIPPEE) and that's the one ride he can't wait to go on again! We're actually dreading the store because we can't get him out of it LOL Some of the "lesser" characters are sometimes out but it's rare. We have seen stormtroopers and a few others in the past.

It's off subject, but........ we went to see the Incredibles Friday and saw the preview for the new Star Wars movie.....oh... my... goodness.....It comes out a few weeks before we head to WDW and I cannot wait. That movie is going to be so awesome.

Sometimes you will see characters outside near the entrance of the ride, DS's have gotten pictures with Chewbacca and an Ewok.
