Starbucks instead of the Main STreet BAkery?

I love Starbucks but am going to miss Main Street Bakery! Went in there several times in August.

:(((

come on!!!!! really?

:scratchin
I agree. I was sad and actually quite annoyed when I read about this today.
It sounds like Disney is going after as much $$$ as they can even to the "loss" of the Old disney Feeling....namely...you are removed from the "real world" and transported to another time and place..not any more...
I am very Disappointed in the decision and think it is the first of many wrong ones to come....:crazy2:

Really? The branding is everywhere!

Practically every attraction is "sponsored" by a large corporation.

Disney features Coca-Cola products to the exclusion of all others.

The ice cream in the carts is all Nestle. In the Fountain View, they feature Edy's ice cream.

The coffee is Nescafe.

Even the disboards beloved Dole Whips feature (wait for it...) DOLE PINEAPPLE JUICE!

You can't escape it.

I was initially disappointed by this news but then did a little research. There is a Starbucks at California Adventure and the treats and decor don't look anything like I would have expected. It really just seems like it is still Disney. Starbucks logos on the napkins and such but nothing like your normal Starbucks. I'm not typically a coffee drinker and the Main Street Bakery is always on our agenda for breakfasts but I'm going to hold out hope that this isn't going to be a very noticeable change. The only thing that I'm worried about is longer lines :crazy2:

I don't understand all of the negativity. It's not as if they will be putting up a green Starbucks awning where the striped Mainstreet Bakery awning currently is. Or that they Fountain View in Epcot will have a giant 'S' on every window. From what I can tell, it won't look much different that it does now. Take a look at the Disney Parks blogpost:

I'm guessing that it will be still be very much the old favorite Main Street Bakery but will feature Starbucks products as well as the old Disney favorites. I'm not going to get too upset over a cinnamon roll. There are many more important things in life that are more worthy of my anger and disappointment.

Your right there are bigger things but this is a DIS board and as such venting about changes at DIsney seems appropriate. This is the place to do that.

I am bummed about Main Street bakery closing and I am more bummed it is Starbucks. Their coffee is not good. I had a white chocolate mocha and a plain black coffee last weekend at Great wolf lodge in WI and neither was drinkable. Awful stuff.

Then again Disney has been doing quite a few un-Disney like things here of late, $10.00 coffee on Main Street is just one more.

I don't understand why Disney would think that people would visit a Starbucks on Main Street when they can visit one on any street anywhere. No more ooohy gooey warm cinnamon rolls....

I haven't read the rest of this thread, so I'm not sure if some one already addressed this or not. There is already at Starbucks at Disneyland, and the drinks they sell are regular prices. Disney did not raise them. Also, they kept with the theming of the area and had food that wasn't from Starbucks. I assume all of this will be the same in WDW.

I'm all for it. You will keep Main st bakery goods but finally have real coffee. For the nay sayers I say its because you don't drink real coffee. Truth is even the nescafe they sell in Disney is below par for nescafe products overseas. I think Disney has realized that the majority of their customers want real coffee not instant nescafe. I think its a huge improvement. As someone who actually drives to a Starbucks every morning before hitting the parks I look forward to being able to walk into the parks and buy a cup of real coffee.

I visited the Starbucks in DCA a couple of weeks ago. They had the over the top DIsney bakery goods in the case. My only complaint was both times through the line (first time at 9:30am, 2nd time was at 9:00pm), the line was long and moved very slow. Other than that, it was a very positive experience. I used my Starbucks card and I also received an annual pass discount (love the Annual pass discounts on food at DL!) :)

I personally can't wait. I love starbucks since they're the only chain that offers soy milk for lattes. I HATE cows milk. Plus their coffee is so much better than that nescafe swill. I don't think the mk bakery products are all that great either. Certainly not anything better than starbucks offers.

I'm actually pretty excited about this. As a self-confessed Sbux addict, and of course Disney addict, it's like the best of both worlds for me. I can't stand the stuff that they try to pass off as coffee at Disney. A couple of reasons why I'm excited:

1) Great coffee finally! (and I can't imagine it being any more expensive than any other coffee I would get at WDW. I pay $2.20 at my local Sbux for a 16 oz coffee, I would expect it to be about $3.50 or so at WDW). I wouldn't expect their Mochas and the like to be more than $6. (I pay $5.00 at our local Sbux)

2) The theming shouldn't be that much different after looking at the way they did DCA.

3) ALL NATURAL PASTRIES!!!!! My daughter has allergies to artificial colors and flavors, and is only able to eat like 2 things from the Main St. Bakery. With the addition of Starbucks, she can now choose from several items that we know are safe! :cool1:

Actually I fresh grind my coffee every morning. I do drink real coffee just my the stuff that media has told me to think tastes good. I don't drink the Nescafé either. We have portable French presses. I am pretty much against Starbucks as a corporation. Main Street bakery was fine as it was without being sold out

The majority of people are not saying down with Starbucks they are saying not to put it in place of the Main Street Bakery. They could have built a seperate building for Starbucks when they did the expansion of Fantasyland and left the MSB alone. PS. there is a coffee shack with real coffee right before you get on the boat to come from the parking lot to MK. There is also Kona Coffee which is good coffee at the Polynesian. Just incase you get to WDW before Starbucks is put in. :thumbsup2

Exactly, go ahead and put a Star Bucks in just not on Main Street. And don't mess with my Ice Cream Cookie sandwich!! Which was the best on the planet!
