Star Wars Weekend

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars film. Word is that next year's Star Wars Weekends will be the biggest, most extensive ever, including a special Star Wars-themed fireworks display.

I grabbed this off a star wars forum - no mention of date but looks like it could be a good year to plan around.

I found this somewhere
Jedi knights and droids will once again join forces for the return of the popular Star Wars Weekends at Disney-MGM Studios. Beginning on May 19, 2006 and continuing through June 11, 2006, guests can take part in this special celebration each Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A regular Disney-MGM Studios admission is needed to attend this event.

The centerpiece of this celebration is the Star Tours attraction where guests can take a light speed trip to the moon of Endor, aboard their star speeder. You’ll find yourself hurtling through space while dodging giant ice crystals and laser blasting fighters. Whether it’s your first or 100 th flight, it’s a thrill ride made all the more exciting by the special events taking place.

All six of the Star Wars films will be represented: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and the much anticipated Revenge of the Sith. Guests will have opportunities to meet and greet characters such as Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Queen Amidala, as well as Wookies, Jawas and Ewoks.

There's a little known Jedi Knight who will be making appearances; none other than Mickey Mouse himself wielding a light saber and ready to pose for a one of a kind photo.

The ABC Theatre will host interviews with Star Wars celebrities. Actors, actresses and the creative forces behind this popular series of films provide fascinating glimpses into what it's like to be a part of movie history.

TIP: In 2005 they offered Fast Pass for autographs. This has not yet been confirmed for 2006.

Fans are in for a treat while participating in the Galactic version of “Who Wants To Be A Jedi – Play it!” With questions inspired by the Star Wars films as well as appearances by film characters, Star Wars trivia buffs can test their knowledge.

Obi-Wanna-Be’s will be chosen throughout the day. The lucky children selected will go to the “Jedi Training Academy” with a focus on lightsaber skills. Once they’ve honed their technique, they’ll be pitted against one of the evil Siths.

TIP: The Jedi Training Acadamy will be open starting March 27th, 2006 and will remain open thru June 11th.

A Galaxy of Collectibles will be on display and available for purchase at the Tatooine Traders shop adjacent to the Star Tours attraction. There will be event-exclusive merchandise including limited edition pins as well as posters, clothing, medallions, and other items that commemorate this special occasion..

Be sure to have your camera ready and your autograph book handy when you blast off and are transported to this popular event.

Thanks Quickgold. I've been checking your site periodically for info on this and the Nightmare Before Christmas party at MGM. (I'm in planning stages for a late October trip as well, and Disney's confirmation on that would be great.)

No dates yet, but check out the maquettes that will be sold at SWW's.

I can't post a link, not enough post's yet. Just search Disney maquettes on the SW site.

If you check my avatar you'll see which one I'm after!

Just called Disney this afternoon hoping the get the SWW dates. The CM checked in several "places," only to get back on the phone to say that they have not yet released the dates. Aghh!

Thanks everyone........let's keep hoping it will be soon!princess:

Either way, it looks like Memorial Day weekend is out for SWW. That stinks for me!

This waiting is driving me nuts. We planned our trip around what we thought would be the first Star Wars weekend. Now it seems if the April/May dates hold true, we'll have just missed the event by a week. ughugh...post the dates already please Disney peeps!

If you look at the EMH's on the diseny site for mgm. They have moved them from friday to sat for the last couple weeks in april and first 3 in may then back to friday again for momorial day. They usually don't move them without something being up. Im sure they will have nothing on that weekend as they will all be in california. So until they post something I can hope these will be the weekends.
