Star Wars Weekend Tips 2012

Just wanted to chime in and say that reading this thread has gotten me even more excited about going to our 1st SWW. :yay: We are going to be there that 1st friday (may 18th) the only sad part is that we will be leaving for home on the 19th.:sad2:

My 5yr old daughter has started getting into Star Wars so much in the last month or so (has watched all the movies twice in the month) that i think she will have a blast. Don't think we will do actualy actor/actress autographs as she is so much more into the "characters" then who may be playing them and it seems that can take up alot of time.

It's kind of funny actually when i scheduled the vacation i figured it would be only me who would be into the whole SWW thing but now I think my daughter is more excited then I am.

Hi, all. New to DIS boards and this is my first post. DW is a member and suggested I get on to check out the info specifically for this.

The tips and tricks in this thread are great. Though we have cut it close a couple times we have never been there for SWW. My fandom goes all the way back and I am stoked! DD9 is somewhat interested in Clone Wars and DS3 knows a few of the main characters but I am the main one.

May the Force be with you!

:welcome:

Lots of us here are regular SWW'ers, who love to come back and provide experiences, latest info and tips. Stay tuned and you'll be in the know.

:thumbsup2

I, for one am researching a place to stay and just finalizing up which weekends to attend (wknd 2 and 3) Memorial wknd for me falls also on a Girl Scout Ceremony to be held at Epcot, so I begged and found someone to trade holidays to work with. I'm just waiting to see who'll be the celebrities and if any new characters will show up this year.

The theme I'm beginning to suspect is Phantom of the Menace. Phantom of the Menace was just brought back onto the big screen again, my DH and the kids watched it in 3D; the kids on the big screen for the first time instead of on DVD. The SWW poster is Donald as Darth Maul, so I'm suspecting my fav actor, Ray Parks will be there again. :cool1: Kind of funny, when the kids and DH got back from the movie, DH said that when Darth Maul showed up for the first time, the kids were yelling not "There's Darth Maul, but "There's Ray Parks!" :rotfl:

Want celebrity autographs? Get there early. Way before the park opens.

The biggest character lines are for Darth Vader and Chewbacca. You may want to knock those out early.

If your kid wants to do Jedi Traning the signup starts when the park opens, it's first come, first served.

we went to HS on an early entry day during SWW, ran over to ride the new toy story mania ride (which took about 45mins) and i almost didn't get my son into the jedi training at all! as it was we were the last afternoon session and it go partly rained out so make sure to sign up the minute you walk in the park if you have a child that is interested
also hit the favorite characters for autographs and pics first because the characters change as you are waiting in line and the popular ones are hard to get. when you see a sign that has multiple characters on it, it means that one of those characters will be signing at one time and there is no way to tell which one you will get since the lines are crazy long! we were in line for r2-d2 and got luke skywalker (which was fine too) but we never did get r2-d2.

How does R2D2 sign an autograph? I'm serious. Some characters use a stamp because they don't have the manual dexterity to write. I'm just curious if R2 does something similar or does he just pose for pictures?

He doesn't sign or stamp. When we saw him with Leia, she signed for them both.

Getting SO excited!

Has anyone checked planning websites for the better of the days to go when they are visiting?

We will be at WDW from 5/24 - 5/28, I had planned to go Friday, 5/25, but I have read that Sunday would be better. I have a hard time with that as Monday is a holiday & I wquld think most people will be coming in Friday night.

Any thoughts?

i would say that sunday and monday(memorial day) in theory will be worse than friday...we went the friday after memorial day and it was still jam packet BUT someone told us it was much worse memorial day weekend! i agree with going the friday before memorial day. we went on an EMH day and that is never recd but we like EMH days because be get get there early and leave mid day

Please forgive my ignorance, but what's the hyperspace hoopla?

We've missed the last couple (after making 5 in a row). . .

How do they do the merchandise now? It used to be in one of the backlot studios over by Pixar place and the line was about an hour.

What's the change to that now?

Last year it was over in the area behind RNRC. Where the path ends at RNRC there are doors to where the old playhouse disney used to be. That's the tent they are using for the merchandise and for the luke, leia, R2 and C3po M&Gs.

We will be in Hollywood Studios on Sat. May 19th. We have reservations for H&V at 10:10. We are NOT there for Star wars weekend. More for Beauty and the Beast and a few other things. I did want to ride SW, but if the line is to long, I can do it next time. We are only in Disney for 4 days, so no choice here. Give me some help. We plan on being there early, do TT, RCC, Beauty and the Beast, TSM, Disney playhouse. Will that be possible.

SO wish we were going this year.........plan on being there in 2013 though! Have a great time everyone!! :goodvibes
