I was just checking my travel dates and plans and realized I have an open day on 6/3 - a Friday during Star Wars weekend. Now, DS (5) is a recent Star Wars fan, but he has only seen the original three movies. He is really interested in the movies, characters, etc. When I mentioned we might be able to meet some of the characters he thought that would be pretty cool. I've never been to Star Wars Weekend before, so I had a couple of questions?

1. Which characters are there for meet and greet/autographs? He doesn't know any of the "new" characters, but knows R2D2, C3PO, Han Solo, Chewie, Yoda, etc.

2. Should I get there first thing in the morning? We don't need to do rides, etc since we'll be back at MGM later that week. He would just like to meet characters. We have PAPs, so I don't feel like I need to spend a whole lot of time there, but I know he would enjoy it.

3. I check some websites, but what is going on that is appropriate for someone who is 5? Jedi training or does he need to be older?

Thanks for your input...

I've never experienced a Star Wars weekend so I'm just going to bump this back to page one so that some of our veterans can offer advice.

I'll be there the first 2 weekends of Star Wars with my 3 & 4 yr. old grandsons!! They love Star Wars!

They will be dressing up - both have lightsabres and the talking Darth Vadar masks!!

The 3-yr old had his pic taken last Saturday with a Storm Trooper in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood!! Spiderman, too!!

He also got to see Mickey at his original home in Disneyland!! Lucky little cuss!! :rotfl:

All my neices, 3,7, & 13, plus DD10 have pictures with Luke & Leia. Also stormtroopers and various other alien characters that I can't give specific names.

You will all have a blast! Old and new characters abound. Just the atmosphere is fun. It is a yearly event for us. My Ds's first WDW trip was when he was 4--almost 5. He was/is a huge SW fan and was thrilled when he was picked for the Jedi Training Academy. My other 2 DS were 3 almost 4 for their first trip...also SW weekend, and they love it also. Go early and catch the SW characters parade.

My son is 7yo and just now getting into star wars. We are thinking of going over there as well.

If I remember right, there is a Jedi training show that kids can volunteer and perform in. You learn some basic light saber moves. You use these moves to battle Darth Vader. I believe they take about 6 or 7 kids per show.

Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok) and Don Bies (R2-D2 Operator) are scheduled for the weekend of June 3rd. I read that there may be some changes to the list of celebs, however. A good site for StarWars Weekends info is http://sww.mgmstudios.org/main/ be sure to check out the tabs on the top of the page! :flower:

We'll be there for the first weekend - I can't wait!!! :Pinkbounc

Lots of characters, including Kit Fisto and Boba Fett to Princess Leia and Greedo -- will roam Disney-MGM Studios greeting guests, signing autographs and posing for photographs. Mickey Mouse will also be there wearing a Jedi outfit. You can find photos of different characters that have been there over the years here: http://sww.mgmstudios.org/main/?q=node/17

If your kids want to do the Jedi Training (more info on the training here: http://sww.mgmstudios.org/main/?q=node/11), the trivia game or you would like to participate in the WWTBAM Star Wars edition games, you'll need to get there early to sign up. Otherwise, it's not necessary.

Jedi training, character meets, Star Tours, "Legends of the Force" parade, to name a few.

Well, based on what I read, it looks like DS and I will head to MGM first thing that morning while my mother watches DD (1). He and I will spend a couple hourse wandering through, trying to meet characters and just generally taking in the Star Wars atmosphere. Then we'll head to DTD and meet up with the rest of the family for a late lunch.

He doesn't know it yet, but we bought him a Jeff Gordon StarWars T-shirt and Yoda hat at the race last weekend. He won't be in costume, but he'll be dressed in the StarWars theme.

QuickGold - thanks so much for the photo link. They were awesome! DS sat on my lap for a long time and wanted to look at all the pictures. Not sure if he wants to meet Darth Vader, though. I keep telling him Darth Vader only acts bad in the movies...

Thanks again everyone...
