Star Wars Themed Resort at DHS

just saw the article and jumped over here. while i enjoy the sw movies, im not the mega fan who would target this on their trip but it is a really cool idea. if this works think about how they could do this with more movies in the future. price seems fairly reasonable too considering you're getting meals & park tickets.

I love star wars, I'm a huge fan and I would look into this more if it became an actual thing. I just feel like overall though not everyone is a mega fan and they don't necessarily go to Disney for Star Wars. I would personally love a whole resort Star Wars themed but it wouldn't appeal to the majority of guests, just like this concept.

thats where my head is at. if im taking a vacation to WDW then i want to spend time in all the parks and not spend 3 days in a star wars story. while it sounds cool and it might attract those mega fans who aren't the park fans, for park fans like me im fine with staying at POR and hitting the parks for those 3 days.

Ouch. So a group of 2 will be $2k. So, take away $200 for a one day ticket. Take away say $120 for Breakfast (2 morning buffets), $40 for lunch, and $200 for Dinner (2 sig rest). You are talking about $720/night for your room. If you are 3 people, you are talking $1080 per night.

It is pricey but I think it would be a cool experience. Just wondering if there is really a high interest in such a thing (hence the survey).

See now I'm a mega park fan and mega Star Wars fan, I would also love a whole theme park that is all Star Wars! But again, it would not get nearly the same attention as MK but it would be amazing *sigh

So $4K for 4 guests? That includes 2 dinners, 1 lunch, 2 breakfasts included. So we are looking at $500 per day per person. Knock off $50 for park tickets for one day ($100/2), since you will get in to DHS once included. Down to $450. Buffet breakfast with characters is around $50, sit down lunches at deluxe resorts run about $40 a person, and dinner shows about $75 per person (I'm using the shows because I'm assuming part of the dinner at least would be included in the "immersive experience", I'm using a character buffet because I expect that's the easiest time to get guests their some of their occasional character experiences).

That is $145 per day ($290 total/ 2 days). So that is $195 total, off the $500 per day all included fee. Down to $305, per person, per day, for the room and any extra experiences. If you pay $100 for cupcakes and fireworks, I guess you'd pay at least $100 for a flight training or lightsaber experience (though despite how much my kids loved Jedi training at DHS, I'd never pay $100 for it, but I won't pay for cupcakes and fireworks either), and probably more for the full 2 day story, but lets leave it at $100 per day. So if you do at least one of those you are cranking down to around $200 per person, per day for the room. Not that much different than the rack rate at GF for a theme park view room, generally $700 to $1100 a night depending on time of year.

At double occupancy, since you are paying by the person, a SW boutique along these lines would actually be cheaper than the GF and you'd get a pretty unique experience. I think, despite the sticker shock, it might actually be underpriced at $900 to $1000.

I love it. I think it's crazy expensive, but would I consider it for my SW-crazy 7 year old? Maybe.

I am very confused by your math.

It's $900-$1000 per person. They didn't mention, per night, but it's a 2 night event so I imagine it would have to be included in the price.

So person #1, let's use $1000 since it's easy

$1000 start
- $100 Park Admit (I don't know why you used $50. It's $100 per day to get into DHS right now. I imagine that price will be higher by time this opens)
-------------------
$900 balance
-$300 approx. for food per person (A breakfast is around $15 ($35 if you want to base it off character breakfast), a lunch around $30, and an $80 dinner)
-------------------
$600 balance per person. How is that cheaper than the Grand?

Pricey but I can't deny if the reviews and feed back was very good I would think about doing it.

Although for that price for two nights, especially people coming from abroad, as we have added costs and would probably need a pre or post stay, it would need to be really, really, really special to justify the spend. :darth:

$600 balance, and 2 nights at a hotel, so $300/night.

If they really want to make money, one of their new cruise ships should be Star Wars themed. I would not pay this kind of a premium for a hotel stay, but I might for an immersive cruise experience.
They have added Star Wars cruise itineraries as well as Star Wars in the kids clubs. I can't see them doing a full ship that way when they sell very well the way they are.

Blog said only 1 day park ticket was included. So I spread $100 over the 2 day cost of $1000 per person. So that's $950, or $475 per day. In the blog, food was listed as 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, 1 lunch. I also used premium resort type food pricing. Character buffet breakfast at 1900 Park Fare? $35 to $60 per adult, I split the difference. Lunch at Whispering Canyon? You could get away with $20 (no tip) if you bought the cheapest thing on the menu and a drink. Otherwise, at least $30. So I might have been off by $10. Dinner show? Category 2 Hoop Dee Doo is $70 per adult. So maybe I was $20 high on the whole food package? Doesn't change the math substantially to go $250 to $270 as opposed to my $290 all in (again, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, 1 lunch). Take the low end and spread the $250 over 2 days, $125 per day. So our $475 (costs less one day of tickets), take away $125 for food and we are now at $350 per day per person, about $50 less than your estimate.

No big deal. Then I pulled off $100 for an included experience like lightsaber training or starship piloting. Why? Because that's my guess for the cost of a Disney add-on experience. If you can do two of these experiences, one per day, we are down to $250 per day per person. So the total for the room would be $1000, 4 people X $250.

Again, comparable to the cost of a night in the highest end rooms at The Grand Floridian, depending on time of year, but still getting a complete immersive experience. If it's double occupancy, and it's still $1000 per person, the room is actually cheap. It's only $500 per day.

While I think your math may be a bit off, I agree that I think this is actually underpriced. People absolutely eat up these types of experiences. As much as everyone hates that Disney does these "boutique" or "elitist" type events and experiences, the bottom line is that they are doing more things to customize the experience. What may be ridiculously and outrageously expensive for one family may be a once in a lifetime experience for another.

My guess this is (1) a destination trip for SW fans who would normally not be interested in WDW (2) the ultimate upsell that folks will add to the beginning or end of their trip.

Agree, the ticket there should be much higher than PP stated.

Food, I would even adjust those numbers ....
- Breakfast BUFFET would be higher than $15, with a themed location, maybe characters .. potentially in $50 range.
- It says 2 SIGNATURE with Entertainment. With signature and show I would compare this price wise more to CV at $130.
- Wouldn't be surprised if lunch were a voucher for in park.
My guess is food value be well over $400.

Add in all the extras, theme, characters, experiences .... value will come from how they are pricing rooms for 2, 4 and Adults vs Children.

It could be located and set in a way that could be visible and part of the backdrop for SWL.

I cruise every year and have never cruised Disney because I can get a better Disney experience at WDW for far less money. I only point this out because this WOULD get me to pay the premium. Yes, Disney cruises sell out as is.

Frankly, I am only interested in changes that I will enjoy. I am glad that others get what they want, but changes like the 7DMT and FEA are lost on me. I wouldn't pay a nickel to ride either, but they are clearly popular.
