Jon Snoddy, the Executive Vice President of Disney Imagineering took to the stage of a CES 2016 panel and teased Star Wars Land Thursday. The Imagineers are hard at work fine-tuning the designs for the rides and experiences for the Land, which will break ground at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World this month. The new Land at both parks was announced officially at D23 Expo in August.

Snoddy said the rides will be "unprecedented, in a way," thanks largely to the involvement of Industrial Lights and magic alongside Imagineering. The special effects firm was part of the Lucasfilm acquisition, and will help fit "super high-resolution projections" alongside physical and practical sets and characters, Business Insiderreports from the convention.

One of the rides will be a boat ride, Snoddy hinted, similar to Pirates of the Carribean - but obviously telling a Star Wars story. ILM has helped in "building a building, building a massive device" or such an attraction, including the precision needed to make the experience the best possible.

One of the rides previously teased is an interactive experience allowing parkgoers to experience piloting the iconic Millennium Falcon spaceship. Another, possibly the boat ride, will portray a battle between the Resistance and the First Order from the current crop of films that kicked off with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Closures at Disneyland begin January 10, 2016 to break ground on the new Star Wars Land.

He didn't say one of the rides in Star Wars will be a boat ride. The rumor mill has made an inference that has no confirmation at all yet.

it's being discussed in several threads at the moment. Water is suggested, but I don't necessarily agree that it will be a traditional boat ride. Water isn't hassle free, but it can be a very smooth conveyance, compared to rail or something else. I think the key is to think of the water as the transportation medium, rather than a boat ride on open water.

The part that makes me nervous is the "similar to POTC" line...Surely they wouldn't have the same ride, subbing in Star Wars characters, would they?

Look at this way. Everyone in their mother wants to experience the worlds that are in star wars. You can only do so much with the landscaping in the park itself. You have at least one slow dark ride, where you can go chill out and experiences all the worlds in one pass. It's not hard to envision, once you forget for a few moments how your butt gets transported through these imaginary worlds.

You aren't on water, you are on a liquid plasma flow way.

I agree. POTC has it's nostalgic appeal but anything similar being built today would, in my mind, be a total let down. IMO, based on what UOR did with Harry Potter, Disney has a high bar to reach for SW land.

A boat ride? And something that still sounds similar to Mission Space? I'll reserve judgment until we know a lot more.

One is a moving simulator attraction and the other is a trackless attraction for SW Land. This boat ride is Avatar. Case closed.

Do not worry. For the next 4 years we will be hearing about and discussing the Star Wars boat ride. Then when detail is given about the specific rides in Star Wars land we will hear from people upset about how great the "cancelled" boat ride would have been.

What you are witnessing is a piece of Disney lore right here folks. Ahhh the Star Wars boat ride - would it have been great? A crappy knock off? Or was it just a poorly written article? We will never know.
