STAR WARS TEASER............I am really starting to beleive them! Disney maybe back on line

If they think they can do simulators over and over again...designed around the needs of their wristband prediction/employee rationing system...then the best days of the parks are behind us.

I don't need cedar point...but some things will need to have some physics to them.

There may well be some physics... kuka arms or whatever, I just don't see coasters happening for Star Wars. I think at least one of the two rides is going to take its cues from Forbidden Journey.

Well here's this post from Screamscape showing some closeups of the Land's concept art, and it does have water in it. Food for thought anyway:

http://www.screamscape.com/html/disneyland.htm#StarWars

I'm still positively sure this is not for SW. It seems like they'll be porting this new boat ride system to Avatar. So making two new high profile ride based off the same Tech is unlikely.

A Star Wars boat ride could be a nice counterbalance to the hypothetical Falcon simulator. It would be rideable for all ages, would be free of motion sickness problems, it would provide "real Newtonian" movement instead of jerkiness and video screen based thrills, and it could tell a better story with more characters than you could ever experience from looking out the window of a spaceship.

We can certainly make the argument of the advantages of a well done water ride.

However - in all the years of dreaming of Star Wars land and the possibilities - I can honestly say water ride has never once entered my mind.

The idea of a water ride still isn't entering my mind. Ugh, I just can't picture it so I still hope this is a mistake.

The part that makes me nervous is the "similar to POTC" line...Surely they wouldn't have the same ride, subbing in Star Wars characters, would they?

Have no doubt they would. But I genuinely hope that WDW is going to make the leap here, and start a whole new branch of their parks to last the next 20 years. I sincerely hope this, don't know if my dreams will be crushed, but I am still holding on :)

...and given Disney's production timescales it'll probably be 20 years before the Star Wars land is built :rotfl2:

So do you guys think we have no hope of a "thrill ride"? Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for all the new lands coming. But, with the information on the rides for Pandora and Toy Story, I was holding out thinking surely Star Wars would give the perfect setting to add another thrill ride. We love love love our Disney trips. But, with a 13 yr old and both myself and DH being coaster junkies; our Disney bubble experience has growing competition. This year we finally got season passes for our closest regular theme park to get our thrill fix before we go back down in October. And, we're already planning that our next trip will be split between Disney and Universal. I wish it weren't so, bc no other place has any where near the theming or "magic". I know the target audience is geared towards young families. But, with all the new progress coming along; I wish Disney would throw us thrill lovers a bone. :earboy2:

Define thrill ride.

I don't think there will be anything with a height restriction higher than perhaps 42" in Star Wars Land. I also think that any rides will have very high capacity. And, to a point made earlier, if you have straps, seat belts, or bars it takes longer to load. As a result of all these, you aren't going to get an Expedition Everest or RnRC.

We shall see, but I can't imagine a roller coaster (ok, I can imagine it pretty easily, but I can't imagine them putting one in). Its going to be more omnimover, high capacity simulator, or water ride. The economics and Disney history seem to all line up to this.

Some numbers (since I like numbers):
Omnimover - 27000-40000/day (Ariel and Haunted Mansion)
Water ride - 40000/day (Small world and Pirates)
Simulator - 17000-21000 (Soarin and Star Tours) - easily expandable (more screens)
Roller Coaster - 21000-25000 (Space Mountain and RnRC)

So, using a very high level thought process here, at least at Disneyworld we already have a simulator (21000). Add in a more motion based simulator (Soarin meets Harry Potter) likely mid 20s in capacity, we're going to need a volume ride and a ride for the whole family. Its just logical. The 3rd ride (or 2nd ride in DL) is going to be a high capacity omnimover/water ride with no risk of "thrill" or motion sickness. I'd be surprised if not.

Man...pouty face. Yeah, more EE or RnRc is exactly what I thought would be so cool for Star Wars. Oh well, still excited. I just wish that EVENTUALLY there will be more than those two mentioned above, and the 3 mountains; that my lil family likes to ride over and over again...(and again)...lol

That's pretty much exactly how I see it. Thrill is a very vague term, but I don't see any coasters going in. Disney is building only 4 new rides in this park and already one of them is a coaster (family coaster, but still a coaster), a Harry Potter/Spider-Man type ride and then some sort of advanced omnimover type seem like the logical route here.

My bet is either a trackless system or some sort of Arthur at Europa Park type of suspended coaster (which is not necessarily what we'd call a ''thrilling'' coaster). I follow Disney patents very closely, and it seems evident that they have many different technologies they could implement besides the enhanced boat ride they developed for Shanghai/Avatar. I just can't see them building two of their biggest rides in decades using the exact same technology, one after the other. Sure, they'll need something family-friendly for those who are not big fans of the thrills, but I think they have many more better options (like the ones listed before) than a boat ride.

The only possible reason to build a boat ride is the capacity issue, and even then, they're supposedly working on Toy Story land and other ''surprise'' additions to reduce the problem.

Actually, I'm thinking one of the rides might include this design. It basically is a motion controlled platform that detects the passenger's movement. Falcon ride, anyone?

This is a cool concept, but I can't imaging how they would implement this and be able to get any where near a decent ride capacity.

I do wonder what DL is gonna do/have though.

Either DHS is 14 acres PLUS Star Tours (yeah) or its 14 acres including Star Tours. If it's 14 including Star Tours then what happens at DL? They'll have all the Star Tours space to do something different. And what about Star Tours? So out of place at DL... Unlikely to move but it wouldn't be the first time a ride moved.

I honestly don't think Star Tours is bad. I do think they could improve the story, but as a ride and concept it's not bad.

80's minivans on sticks were bad ideas...which is why they all were left in the 80's

Star tours is a harbinger of what is likely to happen in "Star Wars land"...
...Disney worrying too much about capacity and universal ridership instead of what's proper for story that they're trying to tell.

For Star Wars...it's not omnimovers...it's should be adventurous within being even too intense...somewhere between the teacups and hurlatron 4000

That's why I hate this "shared development costs nonsense.

One area is space constricted and the other is near unlimited with twice the crowds
