Don't allow any families to move ahead of you and your child once you are in the sign-up queue. The CMs allow you to choose a session that fits into your FP and ADR schedule. This sign-up policy has been in place ever since FP+ began... almost two years now.

Except when it's not.

If slots are only left for one session, then there won't be a choice. But CMs allow families to choose their session time, even during SWWs.

CMs are directed to not interfere with Guests' FP plans.

How would an 8:00 am breakfast factor into the 15 min early opening. Can one parent and the child leave breakfast at 8:45 for sign ups?

Yes.

I figured as much. that is why I am a little concerned with our 8:05 breakfast. We have no problems with one of us leaving breakfast a little early. I just didn't want to be held until 9 if rope drop ppl are let in at 8:45.

Keep your eyes open to see if guests start racing by the restaurant.
That means the flood gates have opened. ;)

If you don't have an early breakfast reservation to get you in the park before rope drop, then make sure you are there at rope drop and hustle (if you don't want look like an insane person by running) your way there immediately to get in line. When I went in the past, I would be there at rope drop and literally run to the sign in place and the rest of my family would catch an attraction or two along the way to meet me there.

You won't be held later than guests at the gate. As soon as the opening music begins to play, that's the signal for the H&V CMs to send you on your way. Most diners report they are finished with signing up before the "gate guests" reach the area.
