Star Wars Galactic Spectacular...if you don't attend the dessert party

Can you share your experience in viewing the spectacular as a regular park-goer (not one who paid for the dessert party). Was your experience just great and you would deem the dessert party as unnecessary? Can you give tips on what you did or where you stood (and how long you staked out your spot) to make it great? Or, do you have regrets about not purchasing the dessert party tickets? Would you tell me about that? I appreciate you sharing your experience. You will be helping me to decide whether to have a nice meal or spend the money on dessert party tickets. Thanks!

Whew! I skimmed the title and thought this was going to be about paying for the dessert party, but skipping the desserts.

No worries. You can get a decent spot without paying for the party. We showed up 2 minutes before show time this weekend and had a decent view.

Be sure you can see most of the screens. That's where the action is. No matter where you stand, a building or tree is going to be in your view of the fireworks.

Be sure to read the official Star Wars at DHS thread. One of the posts on the first page has info about fireworks.

We went on Monday and had an amazing view without the dessert party. If you look on the Dessert Party thread, Yuilin points out the good viewing spots and even has pictures. You really need to get there at least 45 min. in advance to get the best spots. We saw the Frozen show at 7:30, left the theater at 8, and went immediately to our viewing spot for the 8:45 fireworks. If we had arrived any later, we wouldn't have gotten good spots.

Showed up at 8:50, about 10 rows back from the front. Got some frozen lemonade and chatted with those around us. When it was time to get up and " surge forward", we had plenty of space around us. This was on the 15th.
