That is what im hearing mostly that the previous show was alot better than the current show. we were going to hop from epcot to HS to spend one evening there and check it out but I'm starting to think it may be better not to.
This is where it gets confusing.. The original version which had a different name that I forget which was shown during star wars weekends and was daily when construction started was a very different show without projections. That was in your face, launched from very near you fireworks that they had to close streets of america and the area around TSMM to show. If your a fireworks fan, nothing was better at disney for fireworks.
What I'm talking about is some revisions that have quietly happened to the current running fireworks show with projections. The high altitude fireworks are outside of the park and feel distant. There is pyro from the buildings surrounding the area I kind of call the "HS HUB" where they put the stage and great movie ride is located. At first, this was a show with a lot of pyro, fight scenes with a lot of fitting shell choices.. That show got adjusted when rogue one came out to add in footage and remove a lot of the space fight scene. also the fireworks got a huge reduction in how many and big areas of just minor pyro, lasers, projections and sound. Just recently they added in some more flame units and the fireworks seem to be reduced more (and the name suddenly got fireworks removed from it which I just found out and not sure when it happened). So right now it's a projection show with some pyro, lasers, trees that light up, spot lights, projections and the occasional high altitude fireworks and finale. It has more fireworks than the current projection only show at magic kingdom so it's better, but it's not a fireworks show anymore.
So I'm a casual star wars fan, still haven't see rogue one but will get around to it soon. I'm a huge fireworks fan. While I didn't dislike my evening watching the current version a couple weeks ago, it's not a show I would make sure I see in future anymore. I won't mind seeing it with others or if I happen to be around but it's not something I would recommend buying hoppers to be able to see, or getting a seat for hours to make sure your in the hub anymore. If your a star wars fan, I would say it's a must see as it's part of the limited star wars options available right now.
I also should note that illuminations, fantasmic, rivers of light, and the projection only show are also shows I wouldn't go out of my way to see but I do hit them time to time.. Also jingle bell jingle bam was a huge let down, that's a pixar short which wasn't clear on the story line until I heard the director talk about it with a fireworks finale at the end. most of the show is not fireworks and the director doesnt' call it that. now I saw a test of this show from my house and this is not what was originally planned for that one.
