Star Wars Day At Sea Cruise Tips

BB8 races are hysterical!!! We've done 2 SWDAS cruises, and that was definitely a highlight. They also have some SW-specific activities in the kids clubs that are also on other days than the Star Wars day, so sometimes hitting those ahead of time clears up some time on the actual day to focus on roaming around and seeing all the characters.

Another highlight is the drinking cups/popcorn bowls. First SWDAS cruise, they had BB8 cups (which do NOT fit in the cup-holder in the theatrers, lol), but no dedicated popcorn bucket. Last SWDAS cruise, they had AT-AT popcorn buckets. They sold fast, so get one early! It was a PITA to get back home, lol, but is beautiful.

I have 3 boys - the youngest flaked out of the Jedi Training the first time, he thought it would be too scary (he was 4), but at 5 on our latest cruise he was willing to take Darth Vader's head off, lol. Just make sure to wear closed-toed shoes, or they don't allow your kid to participate.

It was frustrating in that the last cruise I think everyone figured out that doing the meet and greets on the day that was NOT Star Wars was better, in that it freed you up for the day. But as silvers, nothing was left when it was our time to book but times on SW day. Now that I'm gold, I am hoping to have more availability. that, or they've moved all the SW meetups to that day, regardless...

someone who is platinum reported that the days were there but either booked up or not open yet on other than SWDAS day. Good point about doing it another day and keeping the day free for other activities. I am going to have to see what is available (as gold) and watch I guess. I would have done it on the day without even thinking about it!

Check out the guest speaker too! We learned a lot about the Star Wars Universe from that talk, and we quote things we learned all the time.

Also check out the special activities in the clubs. Our son loved the special programming in the Vibe. I think it involved building a droid.

My favorite character interaction was when I walked up to a Storm Trooper and asked "Aren't you a little short for a Storm Trooper?" He responded "Aren't you a bit bold for a civilian?"

I would love to go to SWDAS again. It was a blast!

Am I correct in assuming these activities being offered are available to sign up online, similar to booking excursions or Palo? Is there anything one should sign up for once onboard?

Yes, you sign up online. You have to sign up for Chewey, CP3O, R2D2, and Darth Vadar meets. All other characters will be roaming around the ship, have meets that you don't sign up for. If you have kids 12 or younger, then you sign them up for the Jedi training activity. Others not doing it can watch without signing up. You just show up for all the other activities. The character meets and Jedi training are very popular. If all the spots are taken when your booking window opens, go to guest service to see if they have openings. If you are silver level or higher, you shouldn't have a problem getting a time slot.

We go Jan. 18. I'm not booking any meets or the Jedi training this year since we've already done then. But can answer any questions you might have about other stuff once we get back. I'm assuming most stuff will be the same as previous years. Everything was pretty much the same from our 2017 and 2019 ones. You shouldn't have any problems with booking, we were able to get everything as silver last year. We're now gold, so pretty sure we'd be able to get stuff if wanted. Hopefully they will have the same cm doing Chewy, he was GREAT!!! And I'm not a SW fan, but he has been the best meet we've ever had. You're son is same age as my dd, he'll have a blast. The Jedi trading is well done and was offered many times. Bring your camera/video recorder. It has a lot of music/lights that go off and on. Not sure if that is something you will want to let him know about before hand. I think there was also some smoke/fog. It's not done in a scary way though. Same kind of way they use it in the evening shows. He'll have a great time and so will you watching it.
We will be onboard with you. We are very excited - this will be our second cruise, first SWDAS. Woo!

Ours was a while ago, January 2017, but we were only allowed to pick 2 options among Jedi Training and the popular meet and greets. You aren't guaranteed your first two choices but we got ours, which were JTA and Chewie. We were not allowed to go to any other meet and greets - ticketholders only. I actually thought the overall offerings were kind of light and few character interactions. And I didn't care for the dinner menu. I'm probably an outlier though. We didn't book because of SWDAS, in fact it was added after we booked.

They have definitely added programming and people can book jedi training and all 3 of the meet and greets in advance with actual reservation times.
